Heel Spring Support

Among the populace of the Ungul Alliance, a certain disability is fairly widespread. A little more than one in three citizens has heels so high their legs cannot support their weight properly. Walking is painful and difficult for these folks without assistance.
As a result, a remedy has been engineered. Leaf springs, sized to the individual, are strapped to the leg at the ankle to act as heel supports. These allow the sufferer to stand straighter, as the spring takes much of their weight and propels them forward for walking. If these are broken, stolen or otherwise lost, it is as serious as someone's wheelchair being swiped or disabled. As such only true villains who are out just to hurt the individual would do this.
As this is so common, the cultural attitude toward the devices are similar to glasses. Sometimes especially cruel children will bully peers who need them earlier in life, but eventually so many people will need them through the course of their lives that it's considered normal.
