The Staff of Ceitus (sigh-tus)

The Staff of Ceitus is a powerful artifact left by the God Ceitus in a sealed cave that was below what is now Retinor. The cave system and Staff were discovered by Emberly Malminar, the first Queen of Malminar.
The staff and dais in which it is embedded were raised by the magic of the staff into the throne room of the Malminar Royal Castle in Retinor where it remains today.

The Staff is made of iron and platinum, but does not rust. The large blue diamond at its apex glows with a soft inner magic. Gods often used unique items to embed some significant amount of magic to assist them when creating great spells or especially in combat with Demons. Some of these items became gifts to favored mortals for specific uses or protection or as rewards for great deeds or service.
The Staff is now used to choose the First Mage of the Realm, the most powerful Wizard in Malminar as well as used in the coronation of the King or Queen of Malminar. For those who continue in the worship of the missing Gods, the Staff holds great meaning, being a promise from one of the most powerful Gods that they continue to bless mortals and will return at some point to rescue them, delivering them from Demon kind and ushering in an age of paradise in the mortal realm.
The Staff also serves a practical everyday purpose as it controls and powers the Demon energy detectors throughout the Kingdom of Malminar. These detectors allow the Wizards of Malminar to know whenever a Warlock or Demon crosses any of the borders of Malminar. The detectors react to Demon energy and the Wizards monitor their condition at all times. The detectors are also sensitive to powerful creatures created with, or containing, a significant amount of Demon energy. Smaller creatures like devils and sprites are able to slip through undetected, but any use of their Demon magic will set off the detectors, alerting the Wizards to their presence. The system has been in place and proven very effective for over 170 turns.
