The Desert of Quouribi (kwew-ar-eh-be)

In the old language, Quouribi (kwew-ar-eh-be) meant "Paradise".

Now the area is an arid desert, only the bravest, or most foolhardy go here. The sands are desiccant, sucking the moisture from anything not well protected almost instantly.

Flies of this desert shoot their maggots at living things, not waiting for them to die and fall to the sands to be sucked dry. The male flies are small and hard. They fly in groups and smash into living things trying to create wounds so the big, plump females can shoot their maggots at the wounds for entry. These flies are called battoon flies.

Sand storms in the Quouribi kill as the descant sands swirl up around the living, sucking them dry.

The area's biggest predator is called the sand-sharks, because they look a bit like the ferocious sea creatures. They have hard skin, multiple fins that allow them to 'swim' through the sand. Their tough hide keeps them from losing water to the sand. Their outside mouths engulf prey, sealing with the prey inside so no moisture escapes while their inside mouth, with multitudes of teeth, tear the prey apart, absorbing any liquid and swallowing the rest. They utilize all of their prey, except metal armor, etc.. not even bone left. Sand-sharks never eliminate liquid waste and only very small amounts of solid, except for things like armor from a consumed person.

This desert is in the middle of the continent of Halconiket, within a larger, less deadly desert. An old abandoned keep on a single stone spire sits in the exact middle of The Quouribi.

The Quouribi was created by gods and demons during a battle around a keep of the god's. The area used to be a tropical island surrounded by a magical sea in the middle of the desert, but the demons created a spell that turned the water into the exact opposite of water, desiccant sand, dangerous, if not fatal, even to demons and gods. The water around the island was anathema to demons before they turned it to desiccant sand.
