Guðleifr Einarrson

Jarl Guðleifr Einarrson (a.k.a. The Hallowed)

Middle child of the late Jarl Einarr Hàkonson and warrior following the teachings of Ancient Kravaer. Taught from a young age to rule the lands of the Isle of Þrýsýr, his natural magnetism has worked in his favour so far.

Facial Features

Long face with sharp chin, neatly trimmed beard and above shoulder-length straw coloured hair. Kind blue eyes and sports a scar on left side of forehead. Usually wears a simple leather circlet.

Special abilities

Though the Northlanders are mostly known for their fearsome warriors, their Skalds and Berserkers, amongst the nobles very few are those who will pursue such paths in war. Personal history

Born during the mild summer of northern Kravaer to Einarr Hàkonson, Jarl of the Isle of Þrýsýr. As the second born, he spent the early days of his childhood playing and learning without the burden of power ever falling on his lap. Though his older brother, Askr, had little time on his hands to play along with him, the sons of his father's retainers were aplenty and willing to interact with the young Guðleifr. He was a kind and good-natured child that let his curiosity guide his steps in life, whose charisma made himthe center of attention.   When he was 6 years old, his father passed away. Seeing how Askr was much too young, at 10, to take the mantle of Jarl yet, his uncle took charge of the lands. Egil Hàkonson soon declared that Askr would undergo a journey to sea, in order to experience what it is to be a warrior and explorer. This would ensure that he'd be a proper ruler to the people of Þrýsýr upon his return, one year from then. Knowing the dangers that lurked away from home, the burden of becoming his brother's "replacement" was made known to Guðleifr. He'd have to learn how to become a Jarl too, and Jarl Egil was strangely insistant that he needed to start learning the trade as soon as Askr's foot was on the boat.   During the time when his older brother was away, Guðleifr learned how to fight, how to rule, how to negotiate and speak to the noble midlanders or northlanders he might have to interact with. He had little time to play with his younger sister, the roles reversed from when he was a child and would have loved to play with Askr. He still made sure to entertain her, even if he was exhausted from the day's tasks.   Time marched on, and soon the year was up, yet Askr didn't come back home. Though Egil tried sending warriors and search parties, nothing ever came back from it. Askr was lost to the sea and no one knew what could have transpired above its murky depths. Jarl Egil, sympathetic with the young child that suddenly found himself with the burden of rule thrown upon his shoulders, promised Guðleifr that he would remain in the seat of power for as long as necessary. After all, he wanted him to become a proper leader, to take his studies seriously and to be careful with his life, especially since he was the only one left that could take the mantle of Jarl now. Though Guðleifr now had many more tasks at hand, he was still treated with all the love and respect he could ask for. His uncle showered him with praise at his quick-wittedness, at his skills and natural charisma, at his ability to lead others.   Five years later, Askr came back to Vadsevik. His brother had come back home a hardened youth, brash and dour, callous from years spent fighting against the enemies of Kravaer. At 16 years old, he was of age to take the role of Jarl that had been promised to him ever since he was a child, yet many were those that begrudged his taking the seat of power. Egil's retainers thought that so many years at sea amongst pillagers from such a young age had turned him into a depraved warrior, insolent to the elders and driven by tempestuous emotions. Making him Jarl would besmirch the position, would poison the relationship they had with the other Jarls and the King.   Askr was refused the position. The young Guðleifr, who was 12, at the time would keep being taught to be the next Jarl and Egil would remain as ruler in the meantime.   Askr flew into a rage and stormed into the Ruler's Hall, claiming Egil had been plotting against him, that he had always planned for him to be "lost" for so long at sea. Egil Hàkonson was but a traitor and usurper, a viper desiring nothing more but the power that his older brother once had. In the end, Askr was stripped of any power he could still hold in the family and was made Egil's personnal guard so he could be closely watched.   It seemed to Guðleifr that his brother's mood changed quite drastically as the weeks flew by. Where he had once been passionate and brazen, he was now passive and meek. It seemed like the life had drained from the person that had come back from the sea. The young Guðleifr had been quite scared of Askr when he had come back, after all he couldn't say he remembered how he had been all that much before his departure. As he became more tame, Guðleifr thought that maybe this was for the best. That perhaps Jarl Egil could curb his nephew and turn him into a proper member of society, one that could coexist with all of them.   His mother cried a lot during that time. Though she'd never truly explain why and would only keep saying that she wished she could have her old son back.   Once Jarl Egil estimated that Askr wouldn't be a threat anymore, he was cast away from his side and appointed as Guðleifr's personnal guard. He was 14 at the time, and his older brother 18. At that moment, Guðleifr didn't think that shattering Askr's personality was such a good idea anymore. The man looked absolutely miserable, simply crestfallen. It took time, but through encouragements to speak his mind and to share his ideas, Askr eventually became more outspoken in his presence. Though he was still more reserved than he had once been, it still felt like an improvement somewhat.   Wherever he went, Askr would follow and protect him. Sometimes it felt like he didn't value his own life at all and would do anything he asked of him, no matter what it was. Guðleifr didn't like any of this, for he felt like he was more of a tool than an older brother that way, yet knew not how to fix the situation. He hoped that when he would at last become Jarl, he'd be able to reinstate Askr's place as a member of the family. Thus he'd be able to do take back control of his own life.   At 20 years old, Guðleifr met a girl in Rujishamn, as he went with his uncle to take care of matters there. She was called Ragnfriðr and he fell helplessly in love with her. She was smart and wasn't afraid to speak her mind, to take her place in this world. For a few months, Guðleifr would find excuses to spend time in Rujishamn, to spend time alone with her. Before a year was passed, he asked her father Rùni for permission to take her hand in marriage and brought her back to Vadsevik. They had a grand wedding feast where they made their vows before Antheus and the people rejoiced that the line of Einarr would keep going strong for many more years.   As the years went by, he sired 3 children from that union. Sigrùn, a 12 years old girl free like the wind and a social butterfly like her parents. Unnr, a 10 year old little girl that has a quiet disposition and prefers reading to manual labor. And finally, Brandr, a 7 year old boy that dreams of becoming a proud warrior like his father and uncle, of braving the seas in search of unknown lands.   The year he turned 31, war against the Kingdom of Naeya errupted and he was sent to fight on the Island, along with Askr. As a Jarl, he was given command over a war party and asked to defend the land that saw his birth. It devastated him to leave his young family behind, though he knew them to be in good hands and far enough away from the battlefields. He'd keep thinking of them everyday, wondering what they were doing and hoping he'd come back sooner rather than later.   A few weeks after he reached the age of 32, he received news that Jarl Egil Hàkonson had passed away. For now, the old Shield-maiden, Unn, was taking care of matters at Vadsevik, but upon Guðleifr's return he would be made Jarl.   Two years have come and gone since then, and the war still isn't over.

Education

Was taught from a young age how to take care of the lands of Þrýsýr in order to become Jarl once the time was right. He thus has fairly extensive knowledge when it comes to the Jarls of Kravaer, as well as the customs of the Karls and Thralls living under them. A polyglot, he is fluent in many different languages and quite enjoy discussing with folks coming from distant lands in their native dialect.

Employment

Currently leading one of the many war parties of the Kravaerian Kingdom in this time of war. In times of peace would be taking care of matters pertaining to his homeland of Þrýsýr in the North. As a newly appointed Jarl, the only person he has to answer to is the King of Kravaer living in Miklagilr.

Mental Trauma

Lost his father at only 6 years old, though doesn't remember much of the man that was so loved by his people. Has lived a fairly uneventful childhood and knows he is lucky to have gone so long without having to face the hardships of this world.

Morality & Philosophy

Though he can handle himself quite well in a fight, Guðleifr actually doesn't care much for battle. He'd much prefer to handle things peacefully by discussing things first, and if things can't be resolved that way only then should violence be the answer.
