Back when humans were evolving, some humans started to take on aspects of the world, and aspects other beings. Some believe that Angels and Demons started to bestow gifts upon the humans. Some had powers that seemed angelic and life giving, while others had powers of destruction.
For a time these semi-powered humans went about their lives and openly used there powers. Healing the sick with herbs and tinctures, healing people by taking life from another, summoning rain, questioning dead men about their sins. They called themselves witches. They looked to the earth, water and sky. Talked to spirits and ancestors for guidance. Most lived peacefully.
sadly that peace didn't last forever. the non-powered humans started to resent and fear the ones who spokes to plants, spoke to the dead, and many other gifts.
Humans started to hunt them. Slit their throats, burned them at the stake. The ones that didn't burn drowned. Or had their necks broken by a noose.
So the witches stopped healing, summoning rain, and questioning dead men. They hid themselves, practicing their magic in the dead of night, or deep into the woods where no one bothered to travel.
In fear they ran and hid from those without powers or supernatural afflictions. And it was in this hiding that they found others also running. They encountered Werewolves, fairies, and countless other supernatural beings. Together a community was born.
A community made up of all the supernatural's. They settled in villages far from those that hunted them. Allowing in those who ran, and running off those who wished them harm. From the fairies they learned of the other realms, and dimensions. They considered leaving the realm they were in, but many of them wished to stay in the realm they'd always called home.
Eventually they started to interact with Humans again, but stayed careful to not fully reveal themselves.
Over time communities around the world were created and connected to allow Supernatural being safe havens and means to find others like themselves. Cities built with magic so immersed that supernatural's could be open with who they are, and those not fully in the know would only see as something mundane, or find an utterly human explanation.
