Vigors

Vigors are one of the most popular magic creations to come from the techniques of Industrial Magic. First created in the nation of Durand by the entrepreneur Milo Brosseau, vigors are small cigars, similar to cigarillos, made from tobacco, and infused with magical energies to provide certain benefits to their users. Vigors are addictive, and researchers are beginning to believe they can cause long term damage to the smoker. Both of these facts are heavily denied by the merchants, and substantial influence is being applied to keep this information from the public.   Vigors normally cost $1 for a pack, or 15₵ for one. Some vigors as noted below are more expensive.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Vigors are essentially a different form of potion, and use the same rules except where mentioned below. Vigors are smoked in cigarette form rather than imbibed, and an unlit vigor has no effect if eaten. Second-hand smoke from vigors do not provide any benefits, though some think it may have negative effects. Vigors in general do not last as long as potions. Most vigors only last for 10 rounds, though some long term ones last up to ten minutes and are noted below. If a vigor is not fully smoked (such as being smacked out of a user's mouth), it's effects end the round after it is not being used. Early on the marketers of vigors realized that not all potions work well in the new style. Not every potion can be made into a vigor. Specifically cure potions do not work, and instead a fast healing variation exists. But vigors also need to be profitable on the mass market, and the more powerful spells possible to place into vigors can't be distilled down enough to make money. To make up for this, researchers have worked on easier to produce versions of the spell effects. These bring the spells down to profitable levels, but often introduce problematic side-effects. These are ignored or played down by the marketing departments.
