Deacon Malar Shadecreek
Malar began his life in the far-off savannahs of Isk. Born to a well-to-do family of merchants, Malar's upbringing was a happy one with plenty of time spent with siblings (2nd born of 5) in their compound in Kepesk, and with regular visits to the local bazaar and religious temples.
Malar showed prodigious theological leanings at a young age, this was fostered by his parents with regular lessons from Kepesk’s Temple to Festir, where he inhaled the teachings from the various priests, clerics and wandering friars.
It was at the age of 60 that Malar became one of Festir's Chosen and was able to display the ability to invoke his divine power. When these gifts manifested, he was welcomed into Ioth’s Great Temple of The Eight with open arms, to dedicate himself to further theological studies.
After 15 years of studies in Isk’s capital, Malar was accepted as part of a study-exchange programme to the Hamarfaern Temple of The Eight in The Republic of Burakrin.
Malar spent the next 20 years deep in theological study and teaching others the way of Festir. He would share his time and wisdom with any who came to his open door and made many friends, becoming a well-known and respected face amongst the people of Burakrin, particularly the more pious members of the Senate.
At the age of 95, Malar has started to get itchy feet and desires to move beyond the confines of the Temple, to understand how the will of Festir and the other gods manifest in the world beyond study, scripture and theocratic debate.
Unfortunately, Malar's time ensconced within study has left his social range somewhat limited to that of theological discussion and so he has been known to struggle outside of religious circles.
With this in mind, High Priestess Thea Amakiir has sent Deacon Shadecreek on a diplomatic mission. Lady Helaine Grenforth, youngest member of House Grenforth, from The Crow Flies, is currently touring the Republic as a philanthropic ambassador. She is also due to give counsel to the Senate in the capital of Runedar in the coming weeks. Whilst the lady has an escort to get across the Republic in these troubled times, a representative for the Eight would also be a blessing to the less fortunate – perhaps even encourage more to turn to the Eight and join the Converted. It has been arranged for Malar to meet Lady Grenforth at Flaming Jak’s – a tavern on the road between Halflight Forest and the Rachgarurt Mountains. Malar couldn’t help but notice the smirk from the otherwise stoic Elven High Priestess as she sent him on his way…
