Essel Rebellion

Revolution

A rebellion by the Essic majority of Essel Province.

Discontent had been known in Essel ever since the conquest of the province, but anger at a recent raise in taxes (and no small amount of goading from Llenic troublemakers) came to a head in Winter's End 175 II . Diesic Isellaf (known as "the Islandwalker") led a group of rebels into the Temple of Etheric in Essenburg and set fire to the priest's quarters. It is said that the screams of the burning priests can still be heard to this day.   Despite the skill of the Empire's best scouts, Diesic wasn't found for several weeks. By this point, he had been in several Essic villages, raising troops in an attempt to wrest control of the province from the Empire. Numbering close to a thousand strong, the rebels marched back to Essenburg to oust the Magistrate and declare the New Kingdom of the Essels (Neevez Konkreek disi Esselne in the local language).   Unfortunately, the army was ambushed by a loyalist army - raised of guards and local retired Imperial army soldiers - and forced back towards Fort Entwood, where they were crushed by the Imperial Army at the Battle of Heuf Hill on 4 Harvesttide 175 II . After this, rioting occurred throughout the province as Diesic Isellaf - who had been killed in the Battle of Heuf Hill - was made a martyr of the people.   This discontent continues to this day, along with scattered groups and bands of rebels who are aided and abetted by the common folk of Essel.
