The First Rift

Era beginning/end

The original rift that brought the first demons and the first magic.

In some corner of space millennia ago (usually given to be 5000 years ago based on Renathian astronomical sightings), a small hole opened up in the fabric of reality. It is unknown how or why this hole was created, but that is ultimately unimportant; the fact is that it existed back then and is still in existence now.   This hole allowed matter from another dimension to interact with our own. At first, only a few magical particles escaped from it; as time went on, more and more came through. As it was in the middle of space, nothing happened at first; it was only when this energy began to arrive at the closest planet (Renath) that its effects and abilities began to be known of and quantifiable.   Eventually, the hole became big enough that the first demons began to escape their dimensions and begin to cause havoc in the universe. Simultaneously, the first mages began to come into their powers in Renath, who began to create the first magic cultures.
