Culture and cultural heritage

All dwarves share a common devotion to the idea of crafting; this causes them to revere great craftsmen. A few dwarves are writers, whose craft is "wordsmithing" and the writing of epic poetry.

Shared customary codes and values

  • White Dwarves are particularly skilled miners, and they hold the mining of minerals in high esteem. Because of this, anyone with a good knowledge of minerals is an honoured guest.
  • White Dwarves are also fond of working hard and playing just as hard, so expect long days in the mines and raucous celebration in the taverns.
  • Common Etiquette rules

  • Belching after drinking is taken as a compliment by the brewer; the same is not true for food though.
  • Newcomers to a town are often challenged to a game of Frewsân, a checkers-like game that is common to all dwarvish people.
  • Common Dress code

  • All dwarves not of the nobility or the priesthood wear simple clothes, just a tunic and short pants. This race of dwarves is fond of white and grey for these clothes. Jewelry is very common, but not elaborate.
  • The noble dwarves are usually decked out in robes of orange and yellow in White Dwarvish communities, with jewelry being very complicated.
  • Priests in all Dwarven communities are clothed in long robes of black and grey, with gold and silver buttons.
  • Common Customs, traditions and rituals

  • All Dwarves celebrate Srêtânen every 15 Frostmonth, this being the day that Sret created their race.
  • Funerary and Memorial customs

All dwarves bury their dead in underground catacombs beneath their holds. If the deceased dies away from their hold, their companions must bring the body back to their hold for burial.

    Common Taboos

  • Dwarves will not cross underground rivers without making a small sacrifice to Chek; this guarantees good luck until they cross back over the river.
  • Historical figures

  • Dagû the Dangerous is one of their most intrepid explorers, having put an end to the fiendish Dragon Zrakkanr the Whispering Death.
