Varen Lógras

Behind the bar and to the right of the pink-haired man, you can see a pair of figures. One of them is a reasonably tall and sturdy man who is wearing a set of scale mail that is shining even in the dark interior of the tavern. He glances at you long enough to identify you and then he turns away again to look at his drink, as if he wasn't spying on you. Underneath his brown cloak, you can see the head of a large hammer.   The man approaches you as you return to the inn. "Varen, I'm sure Art introduced me. Can we make this quick?"

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

As a strong Imperial warrior, he is remarkably agile and quite strong, using his weight to crush opponents on the field of battle.

Facial Features

Varen keeps himself clean-shaven in general, and his cheeks are a bit pock-marked from a childhood brush with a pox.

Apparel & Accessories

Varen loves darker clothing due to his background with the Thieves' Collective, and he wears the standard brown cloak of the Stalwart Shield.

Specialized Equipment

He wears a personalized set of scale mail that he got from his father and is a family heirloom. In battle, he wields a wicked maul, perfect for cracking skulls.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Varen grew up in a family with a significant history with Imperial Army. He grew up with his father, who was a Captain back when he was in the military. Discipline was the name of the game growing up, but he often snuck out and broke those rules. Once he reached seventeen, he enlisted of his own free will. He spent a couple of years there, but the bureaucracy and rigidity of the organization eventually forced him to leave.   He found his way into the service of the Thieves' Collective for a couple of years, acting as a bruiser for the group. During this time, he met Art Dagesti and the other members of the Stalwart Shield, being the last of the four to join. Leaving his somewhat stable work with the Thieves' Collective for the unreliable work of the Stalwart Shield was a significant risk, but he can say that it paid off.

Intellectual Characteristics

Varen approaches his problems head-on when he can, but he has a clever side that comes from his time with the Thieves' Collective. If he can find a sideways method that get him to the same result but requires less work, he'll take that route.

Morality & Philosophy

Varen's relationship with morality is a rocky one, as he is used to breaking the law with the Thieves' Collective but following it strictly in the Imperial Army. Generally, he will stick to what seems right or fitting at the time.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Varen wants to leave behind a legacy of heroism and good deeds. He's doing this to prove his father wrong that one doesn't need to be a powerful Captain or a political leader to be important. That's why he does his work with the Stalwart Shield.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Years in the military and learning military manoeuvres from his father means that he is a master of martial combat and melee combat. He is also very physically fit and strong.   His time with the Thieves' Collective gave him insight into the layout of cities that makes it easy for him to find buildings even in unfamiliar towns.

Likes & Dislikes

Varen is not a huge fan of conversation and making small talk, and he will often try to avoid these situations when he can.   He dislikes it when his compatriots get in trouble and he will fiercely defend them if they do.   He loves trying new drinks and beers at bars, although nearly never to excess.

Virtues & Personality perks

Varen is one of the more selfless members of the Stalwart Shield and has these virtues:
  • A protective nature and a need to keep his friends safe; and
  • A wish to be remembered for good deeds and the ability to figure out which tasks those are.

Vices & Personality flaws

Varen is not known for his flaws, but those include:
  • An inability to recognize his own strength until it's too late; and
  • His past with the Thieves' Collective, which may get him in trouble later in his life.

Personality Quirks

He'll often make eye contact with people for long enough to be uncomfortable.

Hygiene

Varen keeps himself very clean, taking an almost religious interest in hygiene. He often ends up being the one to make his other friends in the Stalwart Shield bathe and shave regularly.

Social

Contacts & Relations

The Stalwart Shield has connections and relationships with many other mercenary companies and a long-standing relationship with the Imperial Council.

Family Ties

HIs father recently passed away, so aside from a younger sister who lives in Dúrmi he has no family left.

Social Aptitude

Varen tends to keep to himself whenever possible. This isn't from a lack of confidence but rather a lack of interest in social interaction. He thinks highly of himself, but it's more of a pride in his actions than a narcissism. He has well-refined manners when he decides to show them.

Speech

He has a gravelly voice from barking orders and an injury to his throat in battle when he was younger.

Wealth & Financial state

Money is something that he has never needed due to his middle-class background, but the amount of money that the Stalwart Shield brings in is staggering sometimes, and he hardly knows what to do with it. He has it stored away until he does decide.
