The Tale of AAnoor

And the Wriggler writhed and it shook, The Hero speared it with one stroke, Its teeth gnashed and dug one last hook, And then it fell and then it broke.   ~ The Tale of AAnoor
Among the Slimekin of Viironaa, the heroes of the past are greatly revered. Hundreds of tales are carefully passed down from one storyteller to the next, but none is quite so well-beloved as the Tale of AAnoor. Gather enough Slimekin around a campfire, and at least one of them is certain to know the story well.

Hero of the Swamp

The story goes that Paarosii, the great godus of the swamps, fell in love with a Boaalish mortal, and their child was named AAnoor ("blessed by divinity"). The child grew to be gifted with weaponry and tracking, and soon began to rove the fens of Viironaa in search of adventure and monsters to slay.   In the swamps, he found a ruined village with only a singular child who was still alive. This child, Piinaro, mentions that a creature of a thousand tentacles, known only as the Wriggler, has destroyed the village. The only way to defeat it, Piinaro says, is to find an item known as the Slimepiercer, a spear so sharp that it could split rock and therefore split the creature's hard outer shell.   After many years of searching, including robbing important documents from the Valiant Brand, AAnoor discovered the Slimepiercer. The weapon was a spear made of polished brass and steel, but was remarkably light for its size. Its tip was so perfectly-honed that when AAnoor attempted to sharpen it, his sharpening stone shattered. Most striking of all, the spear could talk and reason, giving AAnoor directions and help to guide his strikes and plan his attacks.   AAnoor and a now-adult Piinaro returned to the village, discovering the Wriggler in its new lair. After a long and tenuous battle where Piinaro perished after being thrown off a cliff, AAnoor struck the creature with the spear, hitting its brain and killing it utterly.

Search for the Spear

Attempts have been made by many heroes and would-be adventurers across the centuries to find the Slimepiercer, as following the death of AAnoor the weapon went missing, along with many other artifacts from his travels. Rarely, a hunter claims to have found a brass spear or a talking spear, but most of these turn out to be either magical charms or unenchanted weaponry. The real spear continues to be missing.
