Red Dwarves

"Then, putting his fair-skinned creatures aside, Sret took up a chunk of reddish-brown apaesite and made the first Red Dwarves, giving them long faces, dark hair and beards, and hands perfect for picking up hot metal... Kwist sat down among the Red Dwarves first, teaching them to heat and cool metal, teaching them to use the bones of the world to make wonders."   ~The Holy Tablets

Culture and cultural heritage

All dwarves share a common devotion to the idea of crafting; this causes them to revere great craftsmen. A few dwarves are writers, whose craft is "wordsmithing" and the writing of epic poetry.

Shared customary codes and values

  • Red Dwarves take particular pride in their smithing, with weaponsmiths and armourers receiving great praise among them. The true friend of a Red Dwarf is someone who can match their skill with the hammer and anvil.
  • Red Dwarves are a very honest people, with lying being punished more severely here than in other dwarven communities.
  • Common Etiquette rules

  • Belching after drinking is taken as a compliment by the brewer; the same is not true for food though.
  • Newcomers to a town are often challenged to a game of Frewsân, a checkers-like game that is common to all dwarvish people.
  • Common Dress code

  • All dwarves not of the nobility or the priesthood wear simple clothes, just a tunic and short pants. Dwarves of this race are fond of red in particular, but orange and yellow are common as well. Jewelry is very common, but not elaborate.
  • The noble dwarves are usually decked out in robes of brown and green in Red Dwarvish communities, with jewelry being very complicated.
  • Priests in all Dwarven communities are clothed in long robes of black and grey, with gold and silver buttons.
  • Common Customs, traditions and rituals

  • All Dwarves celebrate Srêtânen every 15 Frostmonth, this being the day that Sret created their race.
  • Funerary and Memorial customs

All dwarves bury their dead in underground catacombs beneath their holds. If the deceased dies away from their hold, their companions must bring the body back to their hold for burial.

    Historical figures

  • Nâmi the Golden is one of the Red Dwarves' most enduring smiths, with her artifacts and works being placed on the same level as holy relics.
