Plainér Marble

Properties

Material Characteristics

This type of stone looks stark white unlike many other kinds of marble, with a complete absence of dark veins. In direct light, it almost seems to shine due to its hue, and coloured light that hits it bathes the area in that light.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Like other kinds of stone, it is very difficult to break and nearly impossible to heat or melt.

Geology & Geography

The material is particularly found in one mine: the Plainér mines from which it takes its name. Some scattered nearby towns have reported finding less perfect veins and lesser quality marble that resembles it.

History & Usage

History

Plainér marble has always been associated with the decadence and prestige of The Gratic Empire, so it is no surprise that the history of both has gone hand in hand. Some of the oldest and most important buildings in the Empire are made of this material, and nobility who want to be associated with the Empire find themselves purchasing statues and busts made from it.

Discovery

The mines that produced this material were first carved in the early days of the Empire.

Everyday use

It is mostly used for construction of buildings and fortresses due to its hardness, but others make sculptures and busts of it to decorate their homes.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The Plainér Mines produce the stone blocks, which are then shipped to sculptors, masons, and merchants who take it wherever it needs to go.

Storage

The raw stone is commonly made into stone blocks and shipped in that manner.

Law & Regulation

The production and carving of Plainér marble is tightly controlled by the imperial government, and those who wish to sculpt it need to get a special permit and pay special fees.
