Paló the Servant

Palógakk Klast (a.k.a. Paló)

In the dining hall, you see a tall man busying himself with some dishes. He is wearing a black shirt and white trousers, marking him as a servant. His long face looks up as the door shuts behind you, a frown on his otherwise unremarkable face. His posture again marks him as a servitor, as he holds himself tall and proud. Proud would be a great word to describe the way he looks at each of you, if only for his profession. He turns back to the dishes, and you can make out a small tattoo just under his ear.   "I'm just cleaning up." a thick Essic accent issuing from his mouth. "I'm Paló, and I hope I can be of some help while you are here."

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Paló carries himself tall and straight, showing his profession to be that of a server and manservant. He has a well-groomed face, free of facial hair, but it sags a little due to the small frown he continuously carries. He has a small tattoo of a bird under his right ear.

Body Features

He has a slight tan from his many days out in the hot Gratic sun doing errands.

Facial Features

He has a long face, with drooping cheeks and only the rarest of smiles. His facial hair is kept clean shaven, despite his protests that he would rather have a short moustache.

Identifying Characteristics

He has a small tattoo from his street days; it's of a small bird and it's just underneath his ear.

Physical quirks

Long days being the model servant have given him a very straight walk with high shoulders.

Apparel & Accessories

He is usually found on duty in his servitor's outfit: a short black shirt with long white trousers and a small white cap (like a newsboy's cap) just a little askew.

Specialized Equipment

In his room, he does have a pair of stashed daggers and a suit of leather armour, just in case he needs to fight his way out or deal with enemies.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Palógakk grew up as a criminal on the Ring Road, working in a street gang with several other Essic kids. When the gang tried to steal from the Lord Mayor, they were ratted out to the local guard, who gave them community service as punishment. Paló's service was to be a servant in the house of one of Gratic City's lawyers, Ignelsio Fardaker. When Ignelsio was sent away to the Magistrate of Freebrook, Paló followed, and he's served him his food and helped dress him every morning from that day to this.

Education

  • He learned to read and write as a child, but his handwriting is rather shaky and riddled with errors.
  • Employment

  • Paló is proficient with thievery and stealing, although he does not use these skills anymore.
  • He has been working as a servant for nearly seventeen years now.
  • Mental Trauma

  • He has a fear of rats from his years on the street
  • Intellectual Characteristics

Paló enjoys music, and usually can be found humming something as he is serving food.

    Morality & Philosophy

He is a man of few morals, not above doing something dastardly. The only reason he isn't behind bars or committing unspeakable acts is that he rarely has time to plan anything, being the only servant besides Serin the Servant. But when that servitude becomes inconvenient to his plans...

    Personality Characteristics

    Motivation

Paló has plans to escape back to his people in Essel and join the Resistance. His problem is that he has grown a little fond of the Magistrate and his family, and he is rarely without a long list of tasks given to him by his master.

    Savvies & Ineptitudes

  • He is an amazingly competent manservant, able to get his lord dressed and undressed in a few short minutes. He is also very fast, often having to run into town to grab some foodstuff for dinner.
  • He knows how to steal and rob, but he is not very good at planning what to do in the event that he is caught.
  • Likes & Dislikes

  • He has a general dislike of Gratic high society, styling himself as a bit of a populist. He would never say that aloud, however.
  • He is a fan of good music, and a bard that can give him a good tune will become his friend instantly.
  • Virtues & Personality perks

  • He feels a certain loyalty to his master that surprises even him.
  • When he says he'll do a thing, he will most certainly do it.
  • Vices & Personality flaws

  • He has a violent and radical streak that he keeps under wraps.
  • Personality Quirks

Paló has a habit of snorting when he laughs.

    Hygiene

As the manservant of a Magistrate, he is expected to keep himself well-groomed and washed. He follows this almost religiously.

    Social

    Contacts & Relations

His family still lives in Gratic City, and he tries to visit whenever he can. This usually ends up being whenever Ignelsio happens to be meeting with the Head Magistrate in the capital, as he will bring Paló with him.   Although his beliefs align with their cause, he is not actually a member of The Essel Rebellion in any way. He has heard about them, however, and can give what little he knows if he trusts the person really well.

    Family Ties

His parents and his younger sister still live in Gratic City. His father was a Essic guard and was born in that land, while his mother was a Gratic housemaid that worked in the same house as his father. His sister recently got married to one of his old gang friends, who recently left his work as a manservant as well. They plan to move out to the countryside, maybe joining him in Freebrook.

    Religious Views

Due to his need to go to the temple with his master, he has converted to the Imperial Temple pantheon. At the same time, he isn't incredibly fervent in his religion, mostly going through the motions.

    Social Aptitude

He has a real charisma around him that he usually keeps hidden so as to not overshadow his master's. He is very confidant, as many revolutionaries are. He is mostly out for himself, as he doesn't view Gratics as the same human race as the Essic people he is descended from. He has impeccable manners when he is serving, but his manners disappear when he is not around Ignelsio and his family.

    Mannerisms

He often nods when he is speaking, almost as a way of getting people to agree with him.

    Hobbies & Pets

  • He is still trying to improve his reading and writing by "borrowing" novels from lady Flora's library.
  • Speech

He has a low voice with a clear Essic accent. If he ever stubs his toe or drops something, he might mutter an Essic curse under his breath so as to not offend anyone's ears.

    Wealth & Financial state

As a servant to a Magistrate, Paló enjoys more wealth than many in town. All the same, he prefers to save it up, preparing for the day when he finally decides to leave his life as a servant behind. As it is, he has a small sack of coins that he keeps under his bed that totals in excess of ten gold drakes.
