High King of Falcrest

In the chaos of the wild world of Dreandril, nations and cities rise and fall from year to year, decade to decade, century to century. The Infinite War drags on as it always has, and everyone's fates rest in the hands of a constantly-changing cast of characters. But one position has remained a centerpiece of Jorandian politics since its founding nearly three thousand years before: The Kingdom of the Falcon, under its High King or High Queen.

Paragon of Stability

The High King is naturally an important fixture of the realm, being its most important figure. But what sets the High King apart from his peers throughout the nations of the world is their focus on stability in the nation. Rather than controlling or ruling their nation in a direct or overbearing fashion, the Kingdom is mostly managed by the High King's council:
Every time I enter the chambers of the High King, I do not feel I am attempting to argue with a personage more grand or more powerful than myself. It is much more like I am discussing the issues of the Realm with an old friend...While His Highness has more say in the end than I, it would never occur to me to describe the ruling of the Realm as an attempt to supplicate a tyrant, but rather to find solutions with someone who can make the necessary changes.   ~ An anonymous member of the High King's Council

Lineage

The High King of Falcrest is descended from Gamas the Stalwart, a hero from the time of the Rising. Gamas's role in rebuilding the city of Falcrest following the fall of Wretched Penumbra was so crucial that he was made ruler of the rebuilt city, and his descendants have carried forward that craving for stability and comfort in the populace of the Kingdom.
