For most, the Amethyst Crown is simply the symbol of the monarchy of the Richterland of Galeo. Those who are closer to the Richter are much more likely to know it as a much older item, untouched by time and powerful in its own right. Only the Richter and his family are the only ones who know everything about this artifact.

History

Stories of the founding of the Galvan capital speak of a large deposit of amethysts deep under the hills outside the city. The pre-Galvan peoples slowly lost or destroyed all of the wondrous artifacts that were made of this material, except for a handful of purple crystals. They set this in the crown of the first Galeorichter, Gallon Bliebl, creating the Amethyst Crown. The circlet has been passed down through the royal family, and with the exception of one famous heist some centuries ago, the Richter has worn or kept it safe ever since.

Reported Abilities

All of the legendary artifacts made of the same purple crystals that the Amethyst Crown is made from have long since disappeared, so only the wearer of the Crown could possibly guess at what it can do. Some of the strange happenings around the Richter that have been explained as effects of the Crown include:

• Being able to prevent people of the wearer's choice from speaking. Unlike most magical silencing spells, which tend to negate the sound of people speaking, this one causes the person in question to be incapable of speaking as long as they are under the effect. This one is the most attested of the Crown's effects;
• Being capable of reading thoughts and emotions from nearby people. This has been cited as a reason that the Richter has been able to occasionally predict plots and assassination attempts without Divining; and
• Speaking to animals/plants and being immediately and perfectly understood (particularly ones that the wearer is close to).

Materials and Appearance

The Crown is made of a thick piece of untarnishable silver wire that has been twisted to form a rope-like shape and fashioned into a circle. Three icicle-like spires of silver come from the base in the front, each containing a small purple crystal. Brihgt light that hits the crystals causes them to glow a light pinkish-purple colour.
