Max

Max is a pre-Calamity construct originally built for war, but rebuilt and raised by a pair of loving wood elves. Centuries after the Calamity, he was awoken by his soon-to-be friend, Pilot, a flying squirrel. He has since joined a party of adventurers and has set out on the Lost Word to help anybody in need.

Creation & Destruction

Much of Max's early history is unknown, even to him. Max was created likely as a weapon of war, a construct used only as an unfeeling soldier. At some point in his time at war, Max crash landed in a forest far away from the terrors of war. His arrival pounded a crater into the ground, utterly destroying his body and his memory.   Shortly thereafter, a pair of wood elves investigated the wreckage and found the demolished construct. The wood elves, Perrin and Dorothy, had been married for many years. They built a large house in this very forest to raise a family, but had been unable to conceive. When they happened upon this construct in the woods, their fear of an impending war blossomed into a parental love.

Rebirth

The metal plates that made up Max's old body were in an unusable condition, but instead of disposing of it or scrapping it for parts, the couple had an idea. They spent months fixing the construct; they carved new wooden plates out of the bark that filled the forest, covered its exposes bits with woven leaves, and etched elven runes along its body to infuse it with druidic magic.   Eventually, the couple succeeded. With the first movement in his new body, Max became part of the family. He was wholly and completely their son; they taught him how to walk again, how to speak, how to read and write, and everything else he knows today.   Above all else, Max's parents imparted one lesson: good will always come from evil, you must simply seek it out. The world is full of people, and someone out there will always need help. Each and every one of them, regardless of origin or past wrongs, is worthy of love. The pain that comes from Max's origin as a weapon of destruction should be taken not as an insecurity, but as a symbol of hope; A symbol that good will always come from evil. You must simply seek it out.

Post-Calamity

Centuries after the Calamity, Max was awoken by a flying squirrel that was using his body as a stash for nuts. Once again, maybe due to his inactivity or the event itself, Max's memory was gone.   Max spent the rest of the day wandering about the forest, searching for any evidence of his past, with the squirrel trailing close behind. The only things Max found were remnants; graveyards of battles and civilizations long lost to time.   Max eventually returned to the spot where he was awoken, where he found a path to a house in a clearing he had not seen before. Exploring the area, he eventually found the remains of his parents, a pair of skeletons embracing each other, unmoving for centuries. It was then that Max's memories returned, along with the wisdom his parents had imparted on him. With the memory of his parents living inside of him, Max set out into the world with his new companion, ready to give his help and love to whoever should need it.   Weeks later, Max came across a group of strangers before an unexpected battle with a bear corrupted by magic. After the battle, the group traveled to a nearby town and started their journey as a party. Max and his new friends Amanita Virosa, Anari Venfiel, Azrael, Montgomery Cinderwood, and Zea decided to stick together as they traversed the Lost World of Ashun.
