Tower of the Sage

The Tower of the Sage is a strange place that has existed for as long as the Valley has been open, passable, and inhabited. It is not common knowledge who the "Sage" was that gave the tower its moniker. Located on the east shore of the river draining from Lake Midai, the top level provides a clear view across the lake at the Galena mountains. The parapets also grant an unobstructed view of the entire City of Bloodstone.   At its base is a ferry dock and there are several small water craft which travelers use to cross the river and into the City. The rocky shale land on this side of the river makes building here impractical and no other permanent structures stay in place for very long if building is attempted. Additional bridges have at times been constructed but also don't last. The aforementioned wooden dock does not deteriorate, perhaps made at the same time as the tower itself.

The tower is a stocky, but imposing, 200' tall (60m) structure that measures 170' (50m) or so in diameter. Though very old, the stones do not seem to weather or age like the other less remarkable structures in the Valley. Most conclude that it was almost certainly constructed using powerful magics. The various stained-glass windows that decorate the outer surface of the tower are for the most part unbroken (though it is known that they CAN be broken they never stay that way). It is also a fact that residents of the Tower aren't able to hold onto the property for extended periods. The Wizard Dholoran holds the dubious title of 'longest recent memory resident' with his stint from 1385 to 1389 - four continuous years. Owners and inhabitants always move on, disappear, or are killed, leaving the tower frequently abandoned.     A Partial List of Known Inhabitants (reverse chronological order)
  • 1396 Morrick's Bandits (Valdeez, Sayanna, et. al.)
  • 1389 Lloydin Garwin (joins Dholoran in the spring, they stay until the end of 1389 when they both suddenly leave)
  • 1385 Dholoran, a Wizard (stays until the end of 1389, one of the longest residents to ever stay, see Lloydin)
  • 1364 Zhengyi (the period he directly controlled and personally managed Bloodstone up until his death in 1365)
  • 1301 Et'Pittikazz, a Warlock (lives here for almost 3 years from 1301 to 1303, goes missing)

  • 1122 The Tiefling Sorcerers Az'Kjuun and Ath'Rakkche (stay for at least two years until they kill one another in 1124)
