The Great Dale

In time forgotten, the area now known as The Great Dale was simply a wilderness explored by creatures of Fey who could craft the weather to fit their whims. During a period of shame, elvish lords dabbling in dark magic committed terrible acts in these forests and a darkness settled over the place. The elves numbers dwindled and many of the mythic creatures that called the place home left. Over a few centuries it was slowly resettled by human folk fleeing the fall of Jhaamdath. Later, the war between Narfell and Raumathar caused the abandonment of the area by humans. But the elves who had remained in their secretive forest fortresses reemerged.    Through all of its history The Great Dale has been governed by Druids. Sometimes these Druids were possessed of multiple disciplines. At one point the Great Dale was lead by Emberleaf, a Gold Elvish Druidic Sorcerer of incredible power and at another time by the human Fighter Druid who was known as Lord Riverkhan. Most of the time they are elves, as it is today with the enigmatic Rualwythin Armoss who is a youthful imaginative Druid of the Circle of Dreams. He longs to restore the mythic essence of the Great Dale, a task that will be difficult. Rualwythin's predecessor Eirieiayal Syu (Circle of Spores) failed to see any reason to support the nobility of Damara when they came seeking help against Zhengyi. That failure ultimately cost her her life, as one of the Mad Monks of Palischuk found her in 1355 and murdered her where she slept. It was an empty victory as he was in turn killed in 1357 in a fight to the death with a fellow Monk. Rualwythin became the Druid of the Great Dale shortly thereafter in 1360.   By the late 1370s (DR) modern Impiltur was looking to The Great Dale as a possible frontier for the expansion of their territory. That ended in 1383 when an emissary of Impiltur, ostensibly sent to do negotiations, attempted to assassinate Rualwythin. The act is thwarted by a mystical ghost unicorn named Iriandel. After the failed attempt no contact has been made between Impiltur and The Great Dale. Instead, for the last decade Rualwythin has reached to the west, to the city of Tellerth in Damara, to establish limited trade and friendly relations. Ultimately the elves will not tolerate a second incursion by an army of humans. If Impiltur resumes their interest, conflict may be inevitable.
