Calendars and Dates

NOTE: A WorldAnvil "Calendar" has been implemented, and that will supersede this page when that is complete.
The Calendar of Harptos is the calendar used across most of Faerûn. It was created by the wizard Harptos of Kaalinth, although most people associate the word "Harptos" with the calendar knowing nothing of its history. It is split into twelve months, each lasting three tendays (30 days). There are an additional five days that fell between months, bringing the total number of days in all years to 365.   The year begins on 1 Hammer each year, which is just before the Midwinter date.

Alternative Calendars   There is a second, much less common, calendar that is used by denizens of the Underdark from the Great Glacier curving around the east side of the Sea of Fallen Stars. In the eternal darkness seasons do not exist. It is called the Zixhengxe Dial, and breaks the year into 5 perfectly equal spans of 73 "days" - each one is viewed as a segment or fraction of a year, one through five. Though none of them have ever witnessed the day/night cycle, they still feel the powerful pull of the Region of Dreams and the strange interactions of the Arcane and Astrological are undeniable. This is true even in the deepest, darkest pits of Faerûn.
