The Fang of Ghyran

The Fang of Ghyran rises from the Serpents Breath sea, the highest point in the region. This is not a metaphor, the Fang literally, continually rises. The amount it goes up per day varies, but it is noticeable. Cast off material trickles off the peak, causing cascades of avalanches sending rocks plummeting down the slopes. The ground immediately below the Fang is choked with this cast-off material. The rocks show signs of having been generated deep within the realm, formed under extreme heat and pressure. What causes it to slowly force its way up in such a bizarre manner is a matter of much debate.

It offers a commanding view of the region, though the climb itself is brutal. The Serpent breath storms are almost guaranteed to come upon any attempted climbers before they make the apex. With brutal flash floods, most attempted climbers will be swept down the side of the rocky mountain, and have their broken bodies carried to the sea. Even on making the summit, the brutal winds are likely to cast any who have made the ascent to their deaths. When the Dark Chill came, the Mourngul hordes swept across the lands, and several have been spotted scouring the great peak. What draws them there, and why they stay, is a matter of concern and curiosity for any who have seen the phenomenon. However, since the Mournguls have come, none have made the ascent, so the cause of their flocking is still not explained.

The island is reachable from the mainland, though it is far enough that there is no sign of the mainland creatures on it. Instead, most of the life one finds are amphibious. In particular, there was a massive nest of Kharybdyssi on the island. The creatures, swept into the bay by the Serpent Breath tides, had settled on the island, using it as an escape from the high concentration of creatures in the bay. This population was largely exterminated on the arrival of Samhain's Gloaming Knights, who put the nest to the torch. Most of the Kharybdyssi failed to escape, and the rest retreated back to the depths, for once a nest was lost to them they would not return.
