Serpents Breath

Serpentbreath bay gained its name as the natural extension of Serpent Skull Island. The island, naturally named for its resemblance to a great dragon’s skull, was the birthplace of ferocious storms. These squalls would sweep eastward from it, and ravage the lands they would strike, dissipating as they made their way through the shorelines. While the Ghyran lands were largely protected by the Barrier Islands of Ghyran, the shores of Ghur had no such protection. The storms would lash in, forcing folk to take shelter in the The Schattenwald, though from these forests very few ever emerged again. The Serpentbreath storms were a sight few ever forgot.

The bay itself is host to large numbers of fauna. While none have explored its depths, it did not take long before the aggressive wildlife of the region would investigate any newcomers into the waters. Fangmora eels, Allopex, and Hydras were amongst the many predators who would prey upon those who took to that unfriendly sea. It was well known, however, that these were not the worst of the creatures in those depths, for the washed-up shipwrecks bore the markings of attacks by creatures far greater than any of those. However, these attacks had, to date, left no survivors.

The waters themselves are warm and full of extremely colorful life. The non-predatory species had clearly evolved in an arms race with the predatory. Some of the creatures bore extremely hard carapaces, others had savage spines, and still more were highly poisonous. In places, it was nearly impossible to see the ocean floor despite the crystal clear water, for the density of the ecosystems precluded such efforts.

Most recently, a massive, dark hurricane spat form from Serpent Skull Island. From the depths of that storm spun great, black geysers. These sought anything moving, and it was only at their final approach did anyone realize that within were storm spawned Mournghuls. The ravenous beasts in Serpentbreath match perfectly with its temperament, and the newest additions only underscore the dangers of the region.

Serpentbreath Bay holds treacherous waters, dangerous life, and unknown mysteries. It is an ideal place for madmen to ply their trades.
