Keep of the Resolute Souls

The Keep of the Resolute Souls was founded after the first Mourngul attacks, it stands as both a defensive fortress and memento to those who fell that fateful night. Known locally as “The Keep” this militarized town prepares for anything. (1) The Sharpspoint is a series of smithies dedicated to creating any and all weapons that may be required by The Keep or the New Lethis region. (2.) Due to their heroic efforts against the Mournguls, the Burnished Order has become the leading religion in the area, because of this their temples are granted prime locations in all newly built towns and forts. (3) Hammershield much like the weapons of Sharpspoint is renowned for its armor and shields. Duardin, Aelven, and Human craftsfolk all compete for the contracts to outfit The Keep. (4) The southern entrance to The Keep is Chill Gate, named for the cold air that blows from the Shyishian continent. This area serves as a cold reminder to the dangers that lie just off the coast, and travelers are warned that New Lethis ends just outside these walls. (5) The Merry Mournking is a tavern of ill repute, many locals are superstitious that even jesting about the Mourngul attacks could attract them back. The tavern keeper does well to capitalize on these fears by selling trinkets to ward off any bad luck. (6) The Steelbrew Brewery of Shavespike makes sure all settlements of New Lethis are well stocked and builds their warehouses wherever permitted. Their carts make up a majority of travel between The Keep and Shavespike along the Tin Trail. (7) The only entrance into The Keep without a road belongs to Alum’s Way. It is home to the Skarzins Mining Company which builds underground paths through the Alum Mountains.

Places of Interest:

  Tavern: The Merry Mournking
Location: In the main street near the town gate. The street outside has drunken revelers.
Description: The tavern is a stucco cabin, with a tanned wooden roof and nicely trimmed hedges. It contains large rugs on the floor and a craps table. A caricature of the Mournking drinking a beer and spilling it through his ethereal body is on the sign outside.

Weaponsmith: The Jeweled Hilt
Location: In a major crossroads. The street outside is next to a grand hall.
Description: The weaponsmith is a timber and brick cabin, with a gray shingled roof and softly blowing chimes by the door. It contains low ceilings and glass display cabinets with polished and jewel-encrusted weaponry. Their slogan is “Catch your Enemy by the Eye”.

Mining Headquarters: Skarzins Mining Company
Location: In a small alley outside of town. The street outside ominously quiet and empty.
Description: The Mining Headquarters is a wooden two-story building, with a gray tile roof and simple furniture. It contains an empty cage and closely packed shelves of goods such as candles, picks, and blasting powder.

People of the Keep:

  The Keep of Resolute Souls is populated mostly by Humans and Duarden. Some of the townsfolk a traveler may meet are listed below.

Anhilda Wechsler: Female Human - Barkeep of the Merry Mournking
Description: She is a pretentious jerk insisting that modern society is full of problems and should revert to a simpler time. A fanatic salesperson, her devotion to profit leaves many who encounter her feeling cheated. She claims to be working towards moving to Shavespike but spends most of her money decorating The Merry Mournking.
History: One day when Anhilda was young, her father was sewing while trying to overcome the flu, when suddenly her father dropped to the ground dead. Her father had died from a severe disease that was unknown to the village doctor. Anhilda was heart-stricken from the event, and her mother started working long hours to provide for them. Anhilda took to drink to forget her sorrows and made a business of it, now she lets others worries fill her coffers.

Thronnira Gimrinsdotr: Female Duarden - Mercenary
Description: She hates other Duarden with a passion. As such she is filled with self loathing. She is submissive, is generally bored by everything, but will take part in whatever people ask of her. She is by nature obliging.
History: Born to a pair of adventurers, Thronnira grew up listening to her father's many stories. Her parents were killed by Gitz in a raid when she was still a young child. The Gitz captured her, and made her a slave and general play-thing. She was beaten and tortured regularly, leading to her deformed appearance. When she escaped, she became a bit more civilized, usually hanging around bars and taverns. She began work as a mercenary for hire. She will embark on any mission as long as the price was right.

Nunkina Skarzinsdotr: Female Duarden - Heir to the Skarzins Mining Co.
Description: She is curt in most of her responses. She prefers to keep her word usage to a minimum to avoid giving away unnecessary information. She is harsh and unforgiving.
History: She served in the navy to pay for her family's outstanding mining loans. Her father has invested heavily in several trade routes and wants her to inherit them. She has built up a small fortune and can afford her own way.

Mathilde: Female Human - Scrap Dealer
Description: Prone to second guessing herself, she comes off as nervous. Her brief stint in the army gave her the idea she was invincible and that she is the toughest woman alive.
History: Born to a poor family in Shavespike she treasured whatever gifts she got. As a young adult she joined the army and was a survivor of many battles. She has set out to find lost technology amongst the Slaglands.

Damdin Rogromson: Male Duarden - Shieldmaker
Description: He is quiet and reserved most of the time, but warms up to people very quickly. Around friends he is liable to tell dirty jokes and enjoy himself. The Mourngul attacks were a terrible time for him, and Damdin does not often speak of it. When he does, he does so with a strained expression and tears in his eyes.
History: He was born several months after his mother was called into army service. A gifted student he started as a Dilettante, but he got bored and became a Shieldmaker. He has worked as a Shieldmaker like his mother before him.

Skallariga Beldinsdotr: Female Duarden - Shieldmaker
Description: She is filled with cunning. She likes to feign weakness letting people think she is weak. She also has developed a complete distrust of the Roofer profession.
History: Skallariga was born in the north. At a young age she loved to build and create. Brilliant and gifted she never wanted to apply herself. She joined the army but had a child, Damdin, soon after and was sent to the reserves. Raising her son in the family business of Shieldmaking, she hopes he’ll have a better life.
