Dusk's Crown Mountains in The Lost Archipelago | World Anvil

Dusk's Crown Mountains

The Dusk’s Crown ring of mountains is perhaps one of the most notable features of the Ghur/Ghyran borderlands. Lava falls rush from caves within the ring, trickling down into the swampy in-lands of Dusk's Hollow to add to the sweltering heat. Tribes of indigenous beings live within as well, largely consisting of smaller greenskins, trolls, and a few scattered ogors. The dense life of the hollow has crept up the sides of the crown, lending it a lush green appearance. The plants, vines, creepers delve deep into the earth, changing from plant life with wide leaves to catch the little sun that might reach the basin, too greedy thorned roots that dig deep into the stone.

Dusk crown also boasts a tribe of duardin, dispossessed who have regressed for the generations they’ve been trapped within the lost archipelago. These dwarves wield weapons of wood and stone, and rush into battle aggressively, seeking their foes with a reckless abandonment more in keeping with greenskins than duardin. The stout folk’s descent into feral savagery was prompted by the death of several of their clan leaders, and years spent as prisoners of the greenskins. Even their language is hardly recognizable to any who speak Khazalid.

The ring of mountains itself is said to have been a literal crown worn by one of the firstborn of Behemat. A creature, larger even than the mega gargants seen in ever-growing numbers, either lost or left the crown here. What has happened since then is a question, but the echoes of the truest nature of destruction remain and have fueled the warlike nature of those within the Dusk Crown’s boundaries for untold years.

Further information about the crown are yet to be unveiled, for the region itself is so dangerous that nearly none are able to penetrate its depths. Even the beasts of chaos who camp at its entry fear to cross that threshold, instead of waiting to prey on any who might try to escape its deadly circumference.
