Battle of the Lustrous Peaks

The Lethisian Expedition headed north towards the Lustrous Peaks. The Shavespikers had supplied them generously but also offered a warning of what may lay ahead - a Chrunchhorn hunter had recently been rescued from the peaks and told of a great drake that called the area home. This may have been delirium or a fanciful hunting story but it had intrigued the Runesmitter Hafgaer Steelbeard, there had been little action since the founding of Shavespike and his kin were itching for a fight.

As they approached the pass, a storm whipped up lightning followed by thunder - no not thunder, a roar echoed through the mountains. Knight Azyros Yhuneska quickly scouted ahead and came upon a scene bards would be jealous of. A wild Stardrake and her brood were in battle with a Seraphon hunting party. The Stardrake and Carnosaur were circling each other waiting for the perfect time to strike, however the sudden arrival of Yhuneska - his lanturn shining like a star, drew their attention. “B...B...Battle positions!” was all the Knight Azyros was able to yell before the two bestial parties converged on his location.

Steelbeard took his Fyreslayers to ground, using his runic powers to open up magmic tunnels. Similarly Soulscryer Amrhod Brinewalker hid his Idoneth amongst the churning rainstorm. The Seraphon were the first to arrive, they were Coalesced - lacking the shimmer of Starborn and ran with savage furiosity. Morrentis was not worried about facing the Seraphon, she had battled their kind before, but where were the drake kin? As if in answer, the sky opened up with the Stardrake and her Dracoth brood crashing to the ground in front of the Arkanaut bodyguard. The air heaved as sparking shards rained down upon the Lethisians, Knight Vexillor Kret taking severe burns. The drakes did not attack however, did they know of her hidden forces? Were they sizing up the Lethisians? Before she could issue an order Knight Azyros Yhuneska charged the Stardrake, he was quickly battered aside, and any hope of easily getting out of this mess was crushed. The Dracoths bounded into the Arkanauts scattering them and leaving the two remaining knights as their next target.

Burning shot interrupted the drakes as Steelbeard’s folk joined the fray. The fiery bolts crashed into both the Stardrake and Carnosaur sending them reeling. The Vulkites battled with Saurus Warriors, singing a joyful dirge as they hacked away at the scaled creatures. Soulscryer Brinewalker also showed his hand arriving amongst the drake’s clutch. Their children in danger, the Dracoths turned away from Morrentis and ran towards the Ishlaen Guard. The battle continued with Steelbeard’s Hearth Guard taking down the Stardrake and Carnosaur, and his Vulkites routing the remaining Seraphon. The Deepkin battled the Dracoth until something in their nature changed, perhaps they realized they were defeated, or maybe knew survival was better than a pointless death. Either way the three remaining drakes sprinted back to their mountain homes, licking their wounds.

Exhausted, Morrentis ordered her soldiers to treat the wounded, Knight Azyros Yhuneska while battered made a full recovery. The same could not be said for some of Steelbeard’s kin and a great pyre was built, sending their souls to Grimnir and Morrida. Finally able to survey the lands, the Lethisians began work on the The Ravengate.
