4. Building Guide in The Lost Archipelago | World Anvil

4. Building Guide

Settlements loosely refer to any structure built by a player where their citizens could congregate. While this typically refers to towns/cities, they can alternatively be ANYTHING the player wishes to describe. Want your settlement to resemble a Colosseum style Fighting Pit for the Orcs? GREAT! Want it to be the beginnings of a Chaos Fortress? GO FOR IT! How about a Cathedral dedicated to Sigmar? IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME!

Building Settlements

Building Settlements is done by using the Action Form found in the Forms article. There are two types of Settlements, Permanent, and the Army Encampment. Each player may only possess a single Army Encampment Settlement. When you first construct a settlement you will need to pick its focus. There are three focus types Military, Economy, and Cultural. Please check out the FAQ article for more details on the below rules.

Building a brand new Tier 1 Settlement of any kind costs 5 RS. When building and upgrading a settlement you will need to make sure that your renown total is high enough to support the number/tier level of your settlements. For every settlement you own, you will need 15 Renown per tier level.
  • Example: If you have 2 Tier 2 Settlements, you would need a total Renown level of 60 to support them. If you want to upgrade one to Tier 3, then you would need a total Renown level of 75.

Permanent Settlements

1. A Tier 1 Permanent Settlement can only be built in a grid square your army has moved through this Turn.
1.1. A Maximum of 3 Settlements may exist in a single grid square.
1.2. Each Turn you may build one new permanent settlement, and upgrade up to three Permanent Settlements.
1.3. Special circumstances may occur that allow for more than 2 Settlements per grid square at the discretion of a GM/Admin.
1.4. See Table 1 below for the cost to build/upgrade a Settlement..

Army Encampments

2. Players can only build a single Army Encampment. Army Encampments travel with the player's army everywhere they go.
2.1. A Army Encampment gains all the same building benefits as a Permanent Settlement.
2.2. See Table 1 below for the cost to build/upgrade a Settlement.

Settlement Focus

3. When you first construct a Settlement you must choose one of the following Focuses. The Settlement Focus can not be changed after the Settlement has been constructed.

Settlement Focus Buffs

Military= Adds 1 to the Siege Attack/Defense Score.
Economy= Passively generates 1 additional RS per week.
Culture= Passively generates 3 renown per week.

Universal Settlement Buffs

4. The amount of Realm Stone required to build/upgrade Settlements and the Universal Buffs they receive are in Table 1. These Buffs are in no way tied to the Settlement Focus. All three Buff types apply to all Settlements. The general description of the three Universal buffs that a settlement receives is shown below.

Settlement Universal Buffs

Military= Adds 1 to the Siege Attack/Defense Score.
Economy= Generate Passive Realm Stone per week.
Culture= Increases your total Renown.

Unique Settlement Buffs

5. The following buffs are uniquely based off a Settlements Tier.
Tier 3: Start a Kingdom and name this Settlement as your Capital.
Tier 4: If a grid square contains a Tier 4 Settlement that you own, then you may build new settlements, tunnels, bridges, etc within that grid square.
  • Your army does not need to be present within this grid square to build here.
  • To build a new settlement in a section of the same grid square, you must have an unobstructed path to that section of the grid square.
  • Use the movement section of the action form for building Tunnels/Bridges within these Grid Squares.
Tier 5: Having a Tier 5 Settlement in a Grid Square restricts all non friendly Armies from moving through that grid Square.
  • Exception: if there is a river/mountain/etc that obstruct the T5 settlement from accessing that section of the grid square.
