Welcome to The Longest Year!
Welcome to The Longest Year! We're excited to have you joining us for this crazy and unique adventure!
This campaign was borne out of myself (Hex) and Mod wanting to run a one-shot to try and get some of our friends into D&D. We weren't able to include everyone that wanted to play due to scheduling, and upon discussing how we wanted to give our friends more opportunities to play D&D with us, we came up with the idea of hosting a campaign in the West Marches style. After many weeks of planning and world-building, we're finally ready to unveil what we have in store for you!
The West Marches style of D&D changes several elements of the typical D&D formula:
- It's exploration-based. You will have no maps to guide you. The world is yours to explore and learn about.
- It's a sandbox. You determine the direction the campaign goes. You determine what enemies you want to face, what areas you want to explore, and what goals you want to achieve.
- It's chaotic. A typical D&D campaign has anywhere from three to six players. This campaign will have many more (at the time of writing this we're anticipating 30). In some regards, it will feel more like an MMO than a typical D&D campaign. There will be a jumble of motivations, desires, and goals.
- It's flexible. You play when you want, as often as you want, with who you want.
