The Steppes of Val

The Stairs of Gods

The continent of Valmorna has been shaped by many a hand. Its lands have been destroyed by magic, its mountains and forests have been altered my the mortal races many times over. However nothing that has been created by the races of Aestharya compares to the Steppes of Val. These great tiered plateaus rise high above the lands leading up the the cresent valley that holds the kingdom of Mor'nathal. Legends tell the the Lord of Earth Val carved these steps out of the mountains and placed his throne at the very top so that he could look upon on the lands of his creation, and keep watch the Matron of Dragons Rotha from across the sea. With his hands he reached deep and pulled pure waters from the ground to fuel the rivers that cascaded down the steppes filling the land with water and reflecting the light of Aestharya in the mists. This was his great gift to his consort Rotha and in turn she blessed the steppes with a bounty of life and fertility in appreciation.

Geography

The Steppes of Val are a great series of stacked tiered plateaus that extend up a crescent valley. From the great lake at the summit of the valley many cataracts flow down each developing a vast series of rivers and canyons that thread their way down into a vast marshland and feed the major rivers below. Along the plains of each plateau the river system is controlled and provides fertile soil for crops that feed the kingdom.

Natural Resources

The Steppes provide the kingdom of Mor'nathal with crops and livestock as each plateau has been developed into fertile farm and grazing lands for many types of crops and beasts. A large majority of the population of Mor'nathal live and work among these plateaus. Apart from farm and livestock the Steppes of Val provide the Kingdom with a great deal of protection as traveling up the plateaus is hard work and invading forces are limited in the space they can occupy.
