Sabiya Alissar nai Urborran

The High Chieftain of the Gerudo and the acting regent of the Gerudo King, Ranakesh the Handsome.   Sabiya is considered a strategic mastermind among her people -- an accomplished warrior, a natural leader since her youth, and honorable in all her dealings. Awarded the rare gift of serving as regent while the new Gerudo King comes of age, she is using her considerable power to reorganize the Gerudo Tribes to prepare for increasing threats from Uradiel and the Hegemony.   She is not without her controversy, as she has been vocal about moving the Gerudo away from having a King. This has caused tension among the more traditional Gerudo Nations who view Sabiya as a threat to their cultural legacy.

Youth and Training

The Urborran bloodline has long warrior tradition. Sabiya was -- like all her sisters -- trained to fight with arms and armor as soon as it was physically possible. Her father was said to be a barbarian warrior from the far north, a claim supported by her imposing build and stamina.   When she was fourteen, Sabiya and the rest of her training cohort found themselves ambushed by a Molduga in the deep desert. Their mentor died trying to get them to high ground. Rather than be stranded under the intense sun, Sabiya used both her cunning and her courage to rally her friends and defeat the Molduga in combat, tricking the Molduga into ramming its head into a sharp rock at high speed. She is one of the youngest to have ever accomplished such a feat.   This act of bravery fast-tracked Sabiya to a life of leadership. She was trained to become a captain, and quickly found herself commanding the army of the Urborran tribe. She specialized in heavy armor and a two-handed axe. A special type of unit that outsiders had come to call an "Iron Knuckle."

Urborran Chieftain

Sabiya became the chieftain of the Urborran tribe at the age of 26, after the previous chieftain retired and nominated her as successor. Though not the most social person, she knew how to delegate tasks, and assembled a party of companions to help manage duties -- leaning on them for advice in matters of diplomacy and arcane study. It was important to have experts in the right place.   She established strong bonds with numerous other tribes, helping them with monster attacks and other matters in order to gain their favor. Her most daring operation at this time was leading a small team into Ur'Almen to rescue a dozen Gerudo who had been taken captive by Hegemony knights. Soon, many of the tribes began to turn to her for military aid and conflict resolution.   When she was 35, the uncle of Divine Guardian Ishaak VI of Uradiel led a rogue battalion into the desert to seek revenge for the jailbreak. Sabiya challenged him to personal combat in order to avoid greater bloodshed and a possible war. She decapitated him with an axe. This was a fair death in an honor duel as far as the Gerudo were concerned, but Uradiel viewed the event with great offense. Especially Ishaak VI.

Capture

Sabiya was captured in the desert one evening by Hegemony knights, aided by Twili scouts, and she was held prisoner for several months. She was then successfully executed.   Her wife, Zara Soress nai Naboris, her old companions, and members of the Shadow Huntresses -- who patrolled the deserts to strike down members of the evil Twili organization known as the Zal'saar -- were successful in freeing her body and bringing her back from death. The experience left her badly shaken.

High Chieftain

Sabiya was subsequently elected High Chieftain by the age of 38. Four years ago, the old Gerudo King passed away in his sleep, which gave Sabiya the regency. This was a rare opportunity to maximize her position of power. Now more cautious and experienced, Sabiya started to whittle away the flaws in traditional Gerudo wartime structure. Fearing that Uradiel would once again attempt an invasion in the near future -- something that she was correct about -- she began to reorganize the military from top to bottom.   Traditionally, Gerudo tribes commanded their own armies, each one highly specialized in certain techniques. Sabiya instead moved toward a unified army, with each battalion having a mix of mounted archers, bladesinger wizards, melee troops, and other units. These levied units would be adaptable and fluid in their movement, better able to outmaneuver Uradiel's troops.   Sabiya also became vocal about wanting to move away from having a King be in charge, especially since the King in question was four years old and an intense war was on the horizon. This infuriated more traditional tribes like the Kotarai, Ganari, and Kuomai. Sabiya's loyalty to Gerudo tradition has been subsequently called into question by these tribal leaders.

War

Uradiel did indeed declare war as she predicted, and now Sabiya dedicated herself to fighting among her sisters on the front lines of battle.
