Yllas Duphendri Character in The Last Line | World Anvil

Yllas Duphendri

Lady Yllas Duphendri of Vilaen

She's old fashioned, she's reclusive, and 'polite' is the most positive description for her personality. Nevertheless, there is no-one I would trust more with the maintenance of this city. I have seen her at work, and her skills are beyond compare.
— Duke Keldithas of Saredris, fellow Vilaen Council Member
Yllas Duphendri is an elf druid from the Laslin city of Vilaen. She has lived within the Old Central Lighthouse of the city's Old Quarter for as long as anyone can remember, and holds an honourary position on the Vilaen Council as "Representative of the Aremari" despite no such group being known within the city.

History

Yllas hails from an island long-since lost to the world's edge, one which she has described as being a tropical paradise of oppressive sunshine and musty jungles. Like many, she began a long chain of island hopping alongside her community to avoid the abyss, before relocating to Vilaen when she was approximately 350. Her skills as a druid and ability to see in the dark made her a natural fit for the teams who maintain the pillars of the city, and she has worked in and with them for the entire time she has lived in the city.   However, there are some oddities. Despite appearing to be in her mid-600s, records of her on the Vilaen Council date back to its establishment over 700 years ago, and her position as a founding member suggest she had been a fixture of Vilaen for many years prior. Her residence within the Old Central Lighthouse would also place her as being around since quite early in the city's history, as it would be almost impossible for a 'rural druid of little means' to acquire property in the Old Quarter without significant connections, and certainly not somewhere as well known and identifiable as the Old Central Lighthouse.
