The Eastern Campaign Begins

The Eastern Campaign of the War Against Soulblighter began with the 4th Legion of Madrigal breaking the Undead Siege of Meridia and ended with the Battle of the Twilight Gap.

The Eastern Campaign of the War Against Soulblighter began almost three months after Soulblighter was killed in Tharsis. Led by General Fenris, Kyrand the Mage, Duke Godfrey Volsung, Four Bear Silent Oak and ne'Ric the fir'Bolg adventurer, the combined forces of the Army of Cavanaugh and the 4th Legion of Madrigal would engage the forces of the Tormentor throughout the Dukedom of Cavanaugh. By all accounts of this time of the war was brutal, with the Undead forces of the Tormentor being of a particularly brutal sort, ensuring the wounded were thoroughly maimed. The fighting continued for nine long months, not easing up during the winter. The war came to it's end when Fenris had pinned the Tormentor and his last salient of forces at a keep high in the mountains above the Dukedom, in a place that was later named the Twilight Gap. Duke Godfrey Volsung, who had been content with letting General Fenris lead the army, opted to lead the charge against the keep, despite Fenris and Four Bear's instance that he should not be at the front. As the Undead forces collapse before the onslaught of General Fenris and Lord Volsung's vanguard, suddenly the Tormentor appears and immediately uses horrific magics never before seen in this world to melt the front lines of soldiers. It's use of magic creates enough of a gap in the lines that the Undead encircle the Duke and before long he is trapped with only a handful of his personal guard around him. The Tormentor, used magic to melt the Duke in a painful and horrible way. General Fenris attempted to reach the Duke but was swatted away and badly wounded. Kyrand took the opportunity to hit the fiend with a holding spell, but with the sheer power of it, he can only immobilze it for a few moments. ne'Ric, one of the greatest archers to ever live, missed the shot and the Tormentor broke free, shattering Kyrand's body with the explosion of power. With Kyrand's last breath he used the last of his life force to hit the Tormentor with a powerful binding spell to imprison him. With the imprisoning of the Tormentor, the Undead forces were quickly dispatched by the remaining forces, thus ending the Eastern Campaign but at a high cost.
