Molten Levitan Serpent
A giant serpent-like monstrosity made entirely out of magma. It can stretch up to 250 ft. long, however, these beasts tend to vary a lot in length and size. Its head usually appears a bit more as one of a drake rather than that of a serpent. They live in large magma repositories or rivers, which they defend very aggressively. When diving out of their magma homes, the upper part of a molten leviathan serpent quickly cools creating a natural armor of patches of warped, black rock.
Traits
- Magma Spiller: Some of the molten serpent’s abilities can leave pools of magma behind. These pools have an area of 100 square ft. Any creature moving through a pool of magma takes 1d6 fire for each 10 ft. of movement. A creature ending their turn on a pool takes an additional 1d8 fire damage. The pools count as difficult terrain.
- Liquid Body: The body of the molten serpent is made of liquid magma.
- Strong Swimmer: The molten serpent can swim through liquids using its normal swimming speed regardless if the liquid’s density, flow, or current.
- Great Cold Vulnerability: When damaged by a spell of 5th level or higher that deals cold damage, the molten serpent is vulnerable to this cold damage.
- Multiaction: The molten serpent may take up to 2 actions on its turn.
- Unreliable Ally: When the molten serpent joins another creature as an ally it only takes one action each turn, does not use its feast ability, and uses at most one of its legendary actions each round unless it falls below 20% health.
Actions
- Dive: The molten serpent dives along a 10 ft. wide line from one magma source to another. Creatures caught in its path must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 7 (1d6) bludgeoning damage plus 11 (2d10) fire damage. On a successful save a creature takes only half damage. The serpent leaves a stretched magma pool at the location of each hit creature that failed its save.
- Tail Sweep: Melee Attack: +12 to hit, reach 15 ft. 90-degree cone, multipel targets. The molten serpent swipes along a conal area dealing 6 (1d8 +1) bludgeoning damage plus 9 (2d8) fire damage to any creatures hit.
- Magma Spit: Ranged Attack: +12 to hit, reach 60 ft., three projectiles. The molten serpent targets up to three creatures and spits a blob of magma at them dealing 14 (4d6) fire damage at each creature hit and leaving a circular pool of magma at their location.
- Feast (cooldown 1d4 +2 rounds): The molten serpent dives towards a single creature, attempting to swallow it whole. The target creature must succeed on a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or be devoured by the serpent and take 21 (6d6) fire damage (ignores resistance). A devoured creature is stunned and at the start of its turn must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or take 14 (4d6) fire damage (ignores resistance). The creature can spend an action make a DC 18 Strength (athletics) or Dexterity (acrobatics) roll to "swim" out of the serpent's body.
Legendary Actions
- Tail Sweep
- Magma Spit
- Recovery: When exposed to a large body of magma, the molten serpent recovers part of the body mass it has lost by absorbing the surrounding magma. Doing so heals the serpent for 14 (4d6) hp. It can take this action 4 times before having to succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or get a stack of exhaustion.
