Illfang the Brazen Lord

Illfang is the current commander of Eagor's Watch. For unknown reasons the demon has lost his sanity and is now held up in one of the inner chambers of the Bowls of Eagor's Watch, frantically guarding the chain mechanism housed in the fortress.   Illfang is a giant kymuth, which are demonic versions of kobolds, wielding a giant battleaxe and a tower shield. On his back, a large nodachi is strapped. His skin is covered in crimson-red scales that act as natural armor, as such, he wears additional armor apart from a shoulder guard. His behavior is frantic and his attacks are made brutality with no intention of sparing any creature that he faces. The axe Illfang wields is the Brazen Drake Hatchet.  

Traits

  • Demonic Strength: Illfang can wield two-handed in one hand and does not have disadvantage on attack rolls imposed by equipment.
  • Evil Dragon Ancestry: Kymuth are descendants of demonic dragons, as such they are immune to being Frightened and have resistance against Necrotic damage.
  • Guard Break: After hitting a creature with a melee attack, Illfang inflicts guard-break on that creature. For the rest of Illfang's turn, Illfang can attack the creature with advantage and deal an additional 4 damage when hitting. If the creature is using a shield, the guard-break does not grand Illfang advantage or additional damage, but the creature will not gain the bonus DC of the shield while the guard-break is in effect.
  • Hyper targeting: If Illfang uses at least one of his attack actions against the same foe three turns in a row, starting on the third turn attack rolls of 18 or higher will count as critical hits.
  • Multiaction: Illfang can make two actions on his turn.
 

Actions

  • Battleaxe: Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 +5) slashing damage + 3 (1d4 +1) fire damage (ignores resistance).
  • Nodachi: Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, up to 3 targets. Hit: 12 (2d6 +5) slashing damage. Attacks made by Illfang using his Nodachi automatically cleave, striking up to 3 foes in a 15 ft. wide 10ft. long cone in front of him. Illfang has disadvantage on attacking creatures more than 5 ft. away from him.
  • Tail Swipe: Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (1d10 +5) bludgeoning damage. The target must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. Illfang can use this attack as a bonus action on creatures that are behind him.
  • Frightful Presence: Ass a bonus action, Illfang may select any creature within 120 ft. that is aware of him. A targeted creature must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or become Frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the Illfang's Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.
  • Throw: While having one hand free, Illfang can target a creature and make a sleight of hand roll contested by a Dexterity saving throw of the creature. When successful, Illfang will grab the creature and throw it up to 15 ft. away from him. The creature will fall prone and take 13 (3d8) Bludgeoning damage. This action will automatically fail when used against a creature of larger size than Illfang. Creatures of medium size or higher have disadvantage on the Dexterity saving throw for this action.
 

Reactions

  • Hellish Rebuke: Upon taking damage, Illfang can use his reaction to cast hellish rebuke.
  • Armament Switch: When falling below 25% (40) HP, Illfang can expand his reaction and 1 legendary action to make an attack with his battleaxe, also knocking that creature 5ft. to the side upon hitting. If no creature is within 5ft. of him he will throw his battleaxe at the nearest enemy creature, making a ranged attack with a range of 30/60 ft. Afterward, Illfang will drop both his axe (if he did not throw it already) and shield and equip his Nodachi. By expanding another legendary action, Illfang can charge to a creature within 30 ft., and make an attack with his Nodachi. Attacks of opportunity are made with disadvantage against Illfang if he dashes using the action.
