Vrigol

The vrigol civilization, is from the icy, gravity-churned world Delta Corvi- 7c, a gas giant’s moon in the Delta Corvi star system 88 light years from Sol in the constellation Corvus.   The vrigol developed hyperdrives about 100 years before link-up. Though there was little interest beyond a few scientific outposts to travel outside the Delta Corvi system.   Vrigol are roughly man-sized, somewhat resembling six-limbed grey crickets. But that is where their similarity to terrestrial insects ends.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Vrigol give birth to live young that swim in shallow pools before developing their exoskeletons a few months later.

Ecology and Habitats

Their homeworld is extremely cold. They tend to keep their spaceships the same way. They like temperatures below -10 C, they actually prefer around -20 C. They can survive on space stations in normal human temperatures for a few days, though they do not like it.   On starships with other races, they require their quarters to have the temperature lowered below -10.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Vrigol developed hyperspace technology about 100 years before the Canopans. Though creating each ship takes time. Like many other insectoid species, much of their technology has organic components to it. They have learned to grow the primary components of their contrivances. In the simplest terms, they adapt an existing living organism to their needs, grow it for a specific purpose, and then harvest it for their use. More often than not, the shell of a weapon or even a starship is the super-tough carapace of a specially designed creature, harvested and hollowed out to accommodate other components. They do not generally employ living tech items— though they are not entirely unheard of—but rather their inanimate tools are pieced together from once-living organisms.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

To the human ear, the vrigol language sounds like a lot of clicking noises. Their language is especially fast, and even with effective translation equipment they can become bored by slowing to the pace of human comprehension.
