Sirius

Sirius is a binary star system with a blue-white giant, and a white dwarf star. Sirius A is the giant, about twice the size of Sol, both in diameter and in mass. Sirius A is several times brighter than Sol. Sirius B is the smaller companion star. It has roughly the same mass as Sol, but it has roughly the same diameter as Earth. It has no more fusion in it's core and will slowly cool until it dies out.
Sirius is controlled by Earth Unified Government as a colony of the planet. The system was settled, and then all but abandoned due to a lack of local resources.
A gas giant with a habitable moon orbits Sirius A. It has been named Siri by the locals and has a population of about 1.3 million people on the whole planet. Split between two large cities around 200km apart, with a few smaller settlements in between them.
