Located 110 light years from Sol in the Z-Positive axis of the Milky Way in the constellation Canes Venatic.

Geography

Cor Caroli is a binary star system with one variable star, and one main sequence star. Carolians have settled on a planet orbiting α1 Canum Venaticorum.

α1 Canum Venaticorum

α1 Canum Venaticorum is a F-type main sequence star. It is considerably fainter, but much more stable than its companion. The planet @Carolia[location] orbits this star. The light from this star is much closer to a blue-white than the light from Sol, and emits more UV light in comparison as well.

α1 Canum Venaticorum

α2 Canum Venaticorum has a spectral type of A0, it's is much brighter, but less stable than it's companion. It is a chemically peculiar star with a strong magnetic field, about 5,000 times as strong as the Earth's. Its composition has overabundances of some elements, such as silicon, mercury, and europium. This is thought to be due to some elements sinking down into the star under the force of gravity while others are elevated by radiation pressure. This star is the first discovered of a class of variable stars, the so-called α2 Canum Venaticorum variables. The strong magnetic field of these stars produces starspots and flares of enormous extent. These flares make the chance of life surviving on any planets nearly impossible.

History

A slower-than-light ship from Earth first probed and colonized the system in the late 23rd Century by old reckoning, after a long journey taking it from system to system through that region of space.
