Brightnight
Brightnight is when the three moons (Mother Moon and her two sisters among The People) are full at the same time. During this time, it's forbidden to say bad things about your prey, for the spirits of the prey can hear you extra clearly. It is also forbidden for adults to hunt large prey, only small prey like fish and hares is allowed. During brightnight, the ghosts of vengeful dead are strong as well, and they might catch you and tear your soul from your body.
In Blood and Chains, Geld performs a magic spell to protect the campsite against ghosts and bad spirits. He was taught this spell by the Crowfeather Tribe Shaman.
The Reid seem not to have any special traditions or rituals for brightnight, or at least not ones that [Val knows or cares about.
History
This tradition has been going on for as long as anyone can remember.
Observance
The tradition of not hunting large prey and being extra careful on brightnights occurs every brightnight, simple enough. This is a rare event.
