Basic Information

Biological Traits

The Thassid are the only sapient species part of the The Galactic Federation  that is not single minded - it operates as a hive mind networked throughout space via the Exonet network and specialised ‘nodes’. Each node is a sub-division of the primary operative mind, helping process the collective load of the Hive. Each of these nodes answer to the ‘Queen’ node - or their primary ‘mind’, located deep within Thassid territory.   Biologically, as the most current advanced sapient species in the Milky Way Galaxy , the Thassid are a species with no match. After years of both genetic and technological evolution, Thassid have synergised the both elements within their biology to the point of seamless integration. Visually they retain some traits of their insectoid origins, but at present they appear closer an amalgamation of organics and machinery vastly different from their original ancestor hive.   Each member of the Thassid is engineered down to it’s purpose, produced through synthetic reproduction. Drones are the smallest variant of the collective, used primarily in mundane tasks and species-to-species interaction. They are most commonly installed in positions of bureaucratic importance for the day-to-day operations of The Galactic Federation  government and facilities, or as observational representatives for related projects.   Soldiers form the military sub-division of the hive and are the largest members of the species, and feature the most enhanced bodies. Usually deployed in units, Soldiers operate alongside The Galactic Federation  operations with allied forces acting as both combat assistance and a direct link to their Military and Combat nodes, helping with both reconnaissance and strategy in areas of operation. Outside of The Galactic Federation  operations, Soldiers are tasked with safeguarding Thassid nodes. Numbers of each variation of Thassid unit fluctuate depending on requirement, but in general Thassid Soldiers only make up about 10 - 20% of Thassid population.   Originally the Thassid did have a physical Queen, but in their transition to the space age and combination with the remaining Queens of their homeworld, they became a collective and essentially immortal mind operating through virtual databases - shedding any kind of physical form and becoming a united force that continues to be a valuable asset to the The Galactic Federation.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Thassid have evolved beyond any kind of biological reproduction, and production of all it’s species is completely synthetic. All Thassid emerge fully grown and mature and ready for operational capacity on ‘birth’. Synthetic reproduction is highly controlled, and any specimens with detrimental variants are destroyed automatically on detection.   Because of this incredibly intensive reproduction and vetting process, Thassid reproduction is incredibly slow and resource intensive. Often batteries of either drones or soldiers are kept in stasis well in advance and only activated when required, if existing units cannot be re-appropriated. The Queen mind is immortal and does not reproduce.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

Thassid have specialised 'nodes' of operation which it uses to help with mental load as well as communication Galaxy wide. Each node represents a special function, and may have several networked depending on the need for use. For example, their general operational nodes for use in Government operations are spread Galaxy wide, whereas the Military nodes can either be permanent or moved to areas of operation depending on the requirements. Their second largest node network, next to their Government node is the Enlightened Collective node, a node network used specifically for research and compilation of information on Sapient species both extinct and extant.

History

Originally there were multiple Thassid hives on their homeworld that were subject to intense competition for resources and eventually wars that nearly lead to the destruction of their entire species. Facing the collapse of the ecological sustainability of their planet itself, the remaining hive Queens engaged in an unprecedented level of communication and cooperation in an effort to preserve the remainder of their species.   Technology developed incredibly rapidly in this stage, successfully transitioning the Thassid off their near-dead homeworld and into the space age. In a final desire to have full connection and understanding, the final Queens shed their bodies and became a consolidated virtual mind that still represents their Species today.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Thassid are the one species most at odds with other representative species in the The Galactic Federation . Initially sceptical of single-minded species as they were often an element of lesser species of their homeworld, they slowly had to learn their space-fairing hive was often an exception of life in the Galaxy, not the rule. The Thassid, instead of opposing these single-minded species instead took to studying them with great curiosity in an effort to understand others, which also expanded into their study and monitoring of sapient species throughout the Galaxy.   Although championing the formation of the The Galactic Federation  with other species, the Thassid primarily take a background role when it comes to major decisions and operations decided by the council of representatives and instead tend to mundane, day to day operations. While this may appear initially confusing to single-minded species, the Thassid prefer to leave debate to strictly single-minded species and only comment on situations when they deem relevant, remaining primarily a culture of benevolent observers.
