Alexis Knight

1st Lieutenant Alexis Knight (a.k.a. Alex)

Alexis has had to fight her whole life - and fighting is what she knows best. Born into poverty on an overpopulated Earth she has seen and endured some of the worst aspects of humanity. Even so, in a Galaxy where humans are seen as a primitive and violent underdog, Alexis became determined to prove to the Galaxy at large that Humans deserve a place in the Milky Way. Enlisting in the United Sol Systems Military at 18, she eventually became one of the most skilled soldiers in the Marine Corps Special Operations unit, promoted to Captain and eventual leadership of one of the USSMC’s most note-able squads, Manticore.   After years of service fighting in defence against some of the Galactic Federation’s most hostile alien enemies and breaking anti-alien, Human-supremacist terrorist rings back home - disaster struck.   Alexis wakes up after a 6 month coma as the only survivor to an incident that managed to kill her entire squad - and she can’t even remember how it happened. As she returns to service, haunted by the guilt of her team-mates deaths and missing memory - she can’t help but notice the writing on the wall. Something big is about to happen in the United Sol Systems, and her missing memory is the key to finding out what.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Peak physical condition, very physically fit and healthy. Condition could be considered ‘inhuman’ due to cybernetics.

Facial Features

Blue eyes, dark lashes, brownish eyebrows with ash-blond hair cut in a short pixie haircut.

Identifying Characteristics

Obviously cybernetic left eye. No scars, though previously had many.

Special abilities

Alexis’ body is almost entirely wired up with cybernetic components, right down to her titanium-meshed bones. This grafting of machine has pushed her previous biological limits into ranges that could easily be considered inhuman. Abnormally strong and able to withstand extreme environments for longer times, extended endurance as well as boasting an incredible tolerance for pain these abilities come with a caveat - her bodily functions and systems have to be monitored by an onboard AI intergrated into her brain, MIRANDA. This augmentation process is irreversable.

Apparel & Accessories

Practical, combat boots/style pants, usually with extra pockets, singlets, t-shirts, bomber jackets. Cannot sit in a skirt for the life of her. Has probably never worn a dress. Tends to wear shades of grey and black - colour is just too attention grabbing and complicated. Favourite jacket is a beat up bomber with a vintage NASA patch. Will occasionally either sport aviator sun-glasses or an eye-patch to mask her cybernetic eye. Unexpectedly, she does wear quite a bit of makeup, usually a lot of eyeliner/mascara. She kind of views it as ‘battle paint’. Lipstick is pretty infrequent.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Alexis has no knowledge or record of her birth mother or father - she knew of her mother in a ‘conceptual’ sense, as she has a name and birth record but was shortly after put into the foster care system before she had even turned two, likely due to drug abuse and/or poverty. She died not long into Alex’s teens, and she expressed no sympathy for her. Her mother never attempted to make contact while she was growing up and for the most part Alex had a mutual hatred for her. She had no knowledge or record of who her father was but presumes he’s the ‘same kind of asshole she was’.   Her time in foster care wasn’t great either. Although she appreciates what they tried to do, due to the general dense overpopulation and resource strain on Earth, most foster children ended up in group home organisations since abandonment due to poverty was and still is to a degree, a common thing. As she grew older she became a bit of a hellion, stemming mostly from her frustration at inadequate systems of care and the selfishness of others that ultimately dealt her lot in life. This became progressively worse as she grew into her teens, but despite that she always cared for the children around her in similar situations - almost aggressively. Because of this she has a long standing ‘childfree’ attitude as she feels the act of conception for most people is seen as ‘selfish’. She’d sooner adopt.   At eighteen she was regarded a legal adult and could no longer be part of the foster system, and like most foster children she ended up on the streets and drifting through communal homes like many other foster children. Where a lot of children of foster homes developed despair and trends towards substance abuse and suicide, for her it became fury. Seeing the suffering she went through was just part of a cycle no one could be bothered breaking. Everyone looked down on them, for who they were - they’d never asked for their lot in life, and they’d been born into the world only to suffer.   This rage became a thirst for justice. Throughout her time growing up, she’d become aware of a crime syndicate operating throughout the area that was ultimately backed by human greed and hubris. Although law enforcement did attempt to deal with them, they never got anywhere and no matter how many times she tried to get situations to improve in the area for the sake of other foster kids of poverty, it never got anywhere. By the time she was 23, she’d had enough and decided to take matters into her own hands. She managed to break into a major base of operations and a drug lab, masquerading as one of the drug cutters and over time assembled an exorbitant amount of explosives. After evacuating all of the drug cutting staff, she blew the building. Despite it all, the body count was pretty low and only included upper crime and a few guard figures. She was arrested on the scene of the explosion by the police, which eventually led to the court trial that had her recruited as a soldier hand picked for eventual training as a Spec-Ops agent.

Social Aptitude

Alexis usually comes off as extremely intimidating to those she doesn’t know. She knows how to handle leadership scenarios, speaks with authority and is always ready to charge into the front line. She can be something of an enigma to those outside her circle, almost a caricature of an ideal leader which can create a lot of distance between herself and those she operates with. She can inspire a crowd, she is incredibly selfless but can also be emotionally unpredictable and has a terrifying mean streak if she is angered. But for those who know her, she shows that she is incredibly grounded and thoughtful of others and only flies off the handle when moral ground has been crossed (or if some grunt did something needlessly stupid that they probably need to remember never to do again). Oddly enough outside the role of a seasoned military commander - she’s actually quite socially inept. While she’s not shy, she often just doesn’t know how to handle ‘normal’ situations very well, like dealing with social emotions etc. Those who follow her patterns closely enough will notice she tends to try and avoid social events, preferring smaller casual gatherings to larger ones and will hole up in her room on her days off.

Mannerisms

Paces when nervous/thinking intensely, tendency to ‘stride’ when walking, sits in a ‘masculine’ fashion, is a ‘morning’ person, collects rocks and plants, throws and/or punches things when angry, can whistle really loud - frequently uses this to get peoples attention, tendency to put feet up on tables/sit on stuff that isn’t actually furniture, fiddles with a butterfly knife/balisong when idle or thinking (that people find a bit terrifying) which is part of her ‘sidearms’ kit. She learnt how to use one when she was a street kid.
