Gondolin

Gondolin, the city for which Gondolin Crater was named, started out in ancient times as a druid setllement. However, over the centuries, it grew into a village, and then a town, and finally, a sprawling city, guided by the cooperation of other cities in the area, which eventually banded together to form a nation, and expanded to cover the entire northeast peninsula of Jebesea. To this day, largely thanks to the defense that the rim of Gondolin crater provides, Gondolin remains the capital city of Istova.

Demographics

Gondolin consists mainly of dwarves and humans, with humans being native to the region and dwarves having originally arrived for paid work. As far as ethnicity, there is a scattering of Gondolin druids with the royal family being mostly of this ethnicity, while the rest of the population is mixed to a considerable extent. The working class has by far the greatest concentration of dwarves, though some are fortunate enough to have achieved noble status.

Government

Gondolin, being the capital, is run by the royal family of Istova. Taxation is relatively light, though the government does control the mining industry. Because of this, the national treasury is maintained mainly by foreign trade, though there are some taxes, since an economy can't hold up on a single system.

Defences

Gondolin is heavily protected from attacks by the mountain range that forms the rim of Gondolin Crater, which is why Gondolin hasn't been conquered once since it was founded. Reinforcing this is a wall encompassing the entire city, save for a few slums to the southeast. On top of this, the city guards receive much better training than the guards of most kingdoms, and they have ballistas, fighters and wizards defending the wall.

Industry & Trade

Istova trades mostly mined resources and alchohol with Drenora for both money and food. They also train food and research (both arcane and scientific) with Luna for labor and raw minerals.
