Maelice Kerrain

Archbishop Maelice Kerrain

The leader of the Church of the Six Saints in Banteave. Creative, Stingy, Cunning. Seeks to help bring Banteave back fully under the light of the Six Saints by convincing the King to decree harsher punishments for heresy. The Church was surprised by the depths to which The Tambar Rebellion was willing to take their fight against the Church and Crown, and want to safeguard against future insurgencies. To do so, she plans on influencing Eadvard III to make his decrees more in line with the laws of the Six.   Maelice was not born in Banteave, but was rather sent here by the leaders of the faith on the Continent to represent their interests here. She has served as Archbishop of Banteave for the past ten years, overseeing dozens of bishops and hundreds of priests of the Six from her perch within The Abbey of Painted Glass. She has a fluent grasp of the Banteavan language, knows their customs, and fits in effortlessly within the courts at Redehall Castle.   She seeks to heal Banteave and purge the sickness that dragged it into several years of bitter rebellion, but is unsure if King Eadvard is the one to do so. He has recently begun consulting with the druid Emelyn Tahn Echen, attempting to commune with his dead son Erick Eadvard Dillestone... an act which, in and of itself, would be deemed heretical and punishable were it not for Eadvard's station. The lasting harms caused by the rebellion has made its mark on the Church's coffers, and Maelice has started to refrain from the typical adornments and expensive trappings that befit her rank for more modest apparel. She has placed several commissioned statues and works of religious art on hold, while still trying to maintain appropriate giving of alms to the poorest of the faithful in Banteave. Even the Abbey of Painted Glass still has damages from the Rebellion that the church has yet to fully repair, as some of the finest craftsmen dedicated to the Church were killed by the Tambarists.   Everywhere she turns, she is forced to compromise. The high druid Brokenbough rules over the Cult of the Red Sisters in The Antar Highlands, and Maelice is powerless to curb his heresy thanks to age-old treaties signed by long-dead kings. Meanwhile, The Cult of Resshe spreads along The Seaward Coast, having bought safe passage into Banteave through the machinations of House Luneste over a hundred years ago, and thanks to their carefully-worded agreements she finds herself unable to fully purge the Dreamsmoke-addled Seers from Banteave as well. But in her pursuit of religious harmony in Banteave, Maelice cannot fail; the leaders of the Church of the Six back on The Continent are following Maelice's undertakings closely, and she will not suffer any failure in their eyes.
