Henry Mage Bane Character in The Kingdom Era | World Anvil

Henry Mage Bane

The Sinful Henry Thornsails (a.k.a. The Eraser, The Anti-Mage)

Henry Mage Bane is a chaotic Obsidian Wanderer with a heart full of hatred. Originally a member of Dwayne Gaulden's personal guard, he would be banished after his unforgivable actions.   Previously going by the name Henry Thornsails, he grew up comfortably in Eldenham, a small city in The Eastlands, known for its peacefulness towards Purude which it receives regular travelling guests from. He would grow up with his mother, who worked as a Elder Tree sap collector, before becoming addicted to the illegal drug, Lliira's Treat. Henry's mother would slave away to provide for her only son and found the substance a reliable deturant of exhaustion, however unfortunately for her she did not have the funds to continually purchase the drug. His mother would promise Purudian traders she would pay them the next time they travelled to the city, sadly enough when the time came to alleviate her debts, the required funds were not in her possession.   Henry's mother would later be killed using a form of Magical Binding called Shadow Binding. The city guard would investigate along with a man cladded in shinning grey, smokey armour. The armoured man told Henry that those responsible would taste the Kings justice and meet Myrkul in the afterlife. The months would pass and Henry would never hear if his mothers murderers met The Lord of Bones, this drove him to find a distraction to ease his loneliness. In the coming years the once young boy, who cried over his mothers charred corpse would train to join the Eldenham and eventually with incomparable focus and determination, claim himself a position on Lord Dwayne Gaulden's personal guard.   Years of service beside the Lord of the Elder Tree, would cause Henry to build great admiration towards his ruler, however the day came when his mothers killer was captured. Lord Dwayne Gaulden would hold a trial within his keep for the crimes, going against the laws set by the Warden of the East, stating that all trials involving magic related crimes must be held at The East Court. Dwayne did this to please Henry, who he had taken a liking to and wished for his loyal guardsmen to see his mothers murderer brought to justice first hand. Surprisingly the lord handed out a punishment that Henry could not accept, the murderer along with his three accomplices would spend their lives fighting in The Open Pits, a life full of danger and one that would ultimately lead to death as they grew older regardless of their skill. Henry saw this punishment differently, a life leading to certain death sure, but a life that could lead to a glorious death surrounded by people cheering their names and respecting their ability.   Henry would proceed to rush the captees after the verdict and behead them all in a single slash, going against the verdict and his lords words. His actions would cause his indefinite banishment, lord Gaulden would tell Henry to never return until he had shown his atonement. Instead of pursuing a life of good doing, he would tell himself that magic was a curse and those who wielded it were worshipers of Kelemvor. Henry would spend his next years traveling and learning how to combat magic, going as far to travel to Oppidum Exspiravit and Purude itself.   He would kill many Magical Binders in his travels and earn himself the name "Mage Bane." During a travel he would run into Ryleen Hildergrass, formerly Ryleen Gaulden after being married off to the far older Edward Hildergrass in a political marriage pact. She would recognise Henry and tell him that her father has been awaiting the day his guardsmen would return, pure from his sins, the lord was sad that he was taking so long. This angered Henry but also reminded him of the great pride it had gave him to have served a man he respected so much, hearing this he promised the lady of Dalmerlington that he would return to her fathers side and become the captain of his guard.   With the promise he had made, Henry would venture the path of atonement through The Wanderer Guild, seeing that becoming a Painite Wanderer would please his lord and show that he had devoted his life to lifting his dishonourable sins. Henry would realise after many years of solo adventuring that he required allies to reach his goal and would join The Omega Society, where he still resides today. Although he still shows distain towards his magic using party members such as Tashie Asakura, he pockets these emotions in order to achieve his goal.
