Woodland Spring Festival

Every spring, the Verdorians celebrate the coming a spring, a time of rebirth and renewal for the ecosystems of the Iki Gardens. The festival is celebrated from the first to the fifth of spring, and is followed by the final night festival of watching the brigthalda bloom.

Execution

The beginning of the celebration takes place at dawn of the first day of spring -- the first of Iwea. Everyone gathers beneath Astrum, the Giving Tree to listen to King Darrak Ironshiled's speech before being dispersed to start plowing and planting the crops of the season and a variety of plants and trees.

Components and tools

All the tools, from plows to trowels, needed can easily be found at the Watering Hole in a tiny shed. A few of the irrigation systems are dwarven-made while the others are natural. Of course, the seeds cannot be forgotten as they are the main component of the festival.   Those who are not planting or fixing up the irrigation canals are planning for the festival -- taking their time prepping the various foods, games, and keeping the kids entertained.

Participants

Anyone young or old can participate as long as they are able-bodied to work. However, children are always sent to help set up the games and collect ingredients for the festival feast with a trusted adult. The disabled are allowed to relax if truly incapable of doing a single thing, or they are asked to help keep the children entertained with stories or fun little games.   The king will always give a ceremonial speech at the beginning of the celebration, just before the festival begins, and an closing speech to welcome the new season of rejuvenation. If the king is unavailable (i.e., ill), the queen is the next in line to give the speeches.

Observance

On the final evening of the celebration, everyone gathers near the brigthalda fields to watch the flowers bloom, and see that spring has finally come at last!

Various Flora

There are many popular plants during the festival, along with their significance in the celebration. Fruits and vegetables are important to keep the dwarves from starving all summer. Such treats are the fire pumpkin and the laurel peach. And of course, the brigthalda flower is the main event of the celebration. If there aren't enough brigthalda sprouts before the first of spring, more seeds will be planted to ensure the chances of a bountiful show on the final night.
