The Coldshaw Valley

The farmland surrounding Daring Heights has been one of its greatest though most overlooked assets. The city thrives in no small part becauseof its farmlands, which now produce enough food to more or less sustain the whole population, though some food is still imported or traded for. The hills (and therefore valleys) in the area around Daring have made excellent land for growing crops and raising animals, along the various streams, creeks, brooks and rivers that knit across the landscape. Fortunately most have various points where they are either easily forded or small wooden bridges have been set up across to allow travel without issue.   To the southwest, however, is Daring's most verdant valley - Coldshaw. The valley was one of the first to be explored and secured by the town's burgeoning adventurer population. A group went in to check the land for dangers and discovered amongst the trees and bushes a large mound of the local plantlife had somehow gained some level of autonomy and this shambling mound of shrubbery proved a real challenge for the young heroes. The valley was named Coldshaw for Rosalyn Coldshaw, the former soldier from Mulhorand, come in search of a new life, who was torn apart by the creature before it could be slain. There is a very small bronze statue to mark the site of the battle in the valley.   Slaying the mound however, allowed settlers to come in and begin to plough and farm the land in earnest. The sparkling River Coldshaw at the base of the valley provided water as the river snaked out of The Sunset Spine and down to the lake near The Dell on the edge of the Feythorn Forest. Out of the way of the various battles and chaos that have taken place, it has been an incredibly sheltered area and with its lush grass and fields of crops. Living in the Coldshaw Valley is largely regarded as the most peaceful place around Daring Heights.
