Aylan Vondar

‘Tiamat’s Veins’, ‘Quartz Town’ and ‘Rainbow Mines’ are all names given to the same town of Aylan Vondar, up on the western slopes of the Ux Verthica mountain range east of Kundar. Similar to the village of Kurzig Vondar which is known for its copper and silver mines, Aylan is a mining town known primarily for the incredible variety of quartz and other semi-precious crystals to be found in the mountainsides around it.   Quartzes and other crystalline structures in every colour of the rainbow can be found here, due to a curious geological mishmash of other metals and resources in the ground which have peppered the crystals with impurities (and therefore colourations). Some have speculated that some incursion from the Plane of Earth may have left such a mixture of minerals in one location. Regardless of the origin, the town has become rich through the mining of this incredibly beautiful array of quartz.   One of the biggest customers of Aylan Vondar is the priesthood of Tiamat - whose many-coloured temples can benefit greatly from a ready supply of coloured decoration. Most of the shrines and temples to Tiamat in the big city are decorated with quartz from Aylan’s mines.   Jewellery is also of course a major source of income for the town, with a street of jewellers producing a variety of necklaces, bracelets and other accessories highlighting that exclusive and bright Aylan Quartz.   Suffice to say that this is the town’s major focus and the three main jewellery/mining trades based there have made their fortunes with this unique and extensive supply of colourful crystals. The town is much larger than its cousin Kurzig further around the edge of the mountains as a result, boasting nearly 1000 people in population, and the town is full of colour as well to match the aesthetic it sells - wooden houses are often painted bright colours to create a quite festive feel to the place. The mining is hard work of course, but fortunately it is one of the safer resources to mine, as great care has to be taken not to damage the product as they remove it.
