Mai-ro

Captain Mai-ro

"The sea is often personified by those who find their fortunes upon it. It calls them, sings to them, its will is so strong they cannot refuse it. They make it sound as if they had no choice, as if their destinies were controlled by it from the start. I do not have these romantic views of the sea. The sea is the embodiment of fear, of death. Those who travel it place a wager on their lives, only to learn how often it collects its due. The sea has taken everything from me, my father, my brothers, my closest friends and greatest loves. All have been swallowed by the waves, never to return.   I do not sail because I love the sea or because I am enchanted by its waters. I sail so that I might conquer it, and in doing so, conquer fear itself."

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Like many islanders, Mai-ro has a tall and lean build. He is taller than most, an imposing figure, though he is not as muscular as others of such height. Working ships all his life has made Mai-ro lean enough to remain quick and agile.

Facial Features

Since joining the Suns, Mai-ro has begun to cultivate his appearance. He keeps a close-cropped haircut where his head used to be shaved, and he has maintained a short well-manicured beard in recent weeks.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Mai-ro was born on the island of Kunda in the Shattered Sea. Like many islanders, he spent much of his early life learning to navigate the sea and harvest its bounties. His father, a skilled sailor, was the captain of a merchant ship based out of Kunda, and his older brothers served on its crew. Just before Mai-ro became of age to join them, a vicious storm sank their ship and all were lost at sea.   Responsibility for his mother and younger siblings fell to Mai-ro, and he spent his early years working the fishing boats and trade vessels wherever he could. Despite his responsibility, Mai-ro longed to find his own path and one day become a captain. He decided to leave the island, eventually finding his way onto the Comet where he would soon become Booster Dalro's first mate.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Mai-ro has always longed to captain a ship, an opportunity which came to him after the Suns came into possession of the Iron Dawn. Despite this ambition, Mai-ro would have chosen to remain on the Comet if it weren't for the respect he ganged for the Suns during their voyage from The Citadel.
