Hylian Radish Species in The Hylian Fantasy | World Anvil

Hylian Radish

A common, wild root vegetable found throughout the Light World, distinguished by its long, broad tipped leaves and vibrant red, heart shaped root. The root is small, only 2 cm, compared to the long, 12 cm, leaves.   The Hylian Radish is closely related to the domesticated Hyrulean Radish, being a genetic ancestor to the latter's many varieties grown for enhancements in flavor, color, and size.

Physical Appearance

A root vegetable, the necessity exists to be able to identify the Hylian Radish both by its edible root and leaves. The base is commonly a small, round tap root with a distinct heart shape and vibrant red color, which goes through to the center. The stem is thick, with hairy bristles, which gives way to a lengthy crown of leaves. The crown contains no more than 3 leaves which end in broad V-shaped tips.

Edibility and Nutrition

The radish is completely edible, though the leaves lack much flavor or nutrition beyond fiber. The tap root contains abnormally large amounts of Vitamin C and Zinc, making it exceptionally designed for boosting natural healing and stamina.

Basic Information

Ecology and Habitats

The radish easily takes in any soil that can also grow grass. It is exceptionally hardy, sometimes being dug up from under snowbanks and even found alongside some areas of Eldin Volcano.
