Full Moons Night

Full Moons Night is an event that occurs roughly every two and a half years, when all 3 of the moons are full. Each full moon has long been associated with unusual events, both good and bad. In ancient times, coronations, weddings and other important events were often held during the full moon, and histories and legends from those times often tie the full moon to natural disasters, decisive battles, and so on. In short, the full moon has long been seen as being synonymous with change. So when all 3 moons are full at once, then surely it must be a time for the most dramatic of changes.

Frequency

The moons are full every 21, 27 and 35 days. This makes the full moon quite frequent, and even a double full moon happens several times a year. Full Moons Night, however, where all 3 moons are full, takes place only once every 945 days.

Observance in Tulwood

In the city of Tulwood, Full Moons Night is a night for parties and drinking. For servants, the day leading up to Full Moons Night is Upside Down day, where the masters of the house become the servants, though in most households, the staff are simply paid a bonus in place of demanding anything of the master, and are given the day off. The day after is also a city-wide holiday, as much of the population will be either still drunk from the long night of drinking, hung over, or just too tired to perform their duties effectively.   The night itself is given over to parties. For parents and their children, such parties are relatively tame, with neighbourhoods coming together to share special treats, fanciful tales of mysterious and dangerous creatures, and to play games. For everyone else, though, things can get decidely more unhinged.   Most drinking establishments offer steep discounts on their drinks, often offering their cheapest options for free, ensuring everyone who is so inclined will be thoroughly drunk. It is a night of risk taking. Brawling is common among those who wish to settle scores, and as long as no permanent damage is done this is largely considered acceptable behaviour on Full Moons Night. Singles often take new lovers, many couples consider adulty permissible on this night (but only this night). And in some establishments, people undertake more adventurous forms of this style of entertainment.

Observances elsewhere

Many places still follow older traditions, where Full Moons Night is as much feared as it is anticipated. In these places, the tales of disasters tied to this night are all too real. While it is still a night of change, it is also a night of danger. Many wear frightening masks intended to drive away evil spirits, and households keep sweets as offerings to strangers who come knocking. This naturally gives rise to masked children haunting the neighbourhoods seeking tasty offerings to stave of mischief, and in some communities this has become an accepted practice. However, everyone remains aware that some of the masked beings that haunt the night may bring far worse mischief than any child.

Assessment of the Hunters' Guild

Most ancient tales about the full moon are fabrications; the full moon is an excellent time to schedule important events in those times, as one does not need a calendar to see when the moon is full. Dire events happening on full moons are usually simply old storytellers attempting to tie the events in their realm to a grander cosmological significance.   However, some creatures of the Powers do seem to respond to the full moon in some way. Some Powers appear to only attempt a Manifestation on Full Moons Night, and thus a Hunter's experience on this night can get quite alarming indeed. However, it seems that other Powers are more responsive to the reverse event, when all three moons are dark, and a strong minority of the Powers are effected by the cycle of the moons at all.
