Locomotives

Created in 3161 EM, a new method of travel, the locomotive, was finally created after years of being developed in the minds of man. For eons, horses and carriages, as well as boats, were the main method of travels. They were often slow, not allowing for massive distance traveling. The locomotive was something that had been theorized to work, but could never actually be produced in a safe way. There are only a few trains throughout Terra Minima, Terra Maxia, and Terra Ultima, along with rails to go with them, but there are more in the works every day, as it is an exceedingly faster method of travel. They were developed originally to be powered by steam, but were eventually scrapped as the semantics of it couldn't be ironed out. With the immense strength of some mighty wizards, the trains were imbued with magic energy, allowing them to be powered by magical power! The first train to be introduced was the "Piercing Arrow," a lightning fast train that travels around Terra Ultima.   The one train that our party has actually seen is a locomotive by the name of the Gravy Train. This train was created as a cargo train, which would carry goods all around Terra Minima and Terra Maxia, often carrying perishables that needed to be transported faster than by boat (like the boat that sank outside of Oceania, it had gravy in it's possession), hence how it got its name. It was, however, changed to be a passenger train after a local outcry, since there was no real easy and swift way to get to Terra Maxia from the smaller Terra Minima, unless one traveled several days. There are many stations along the rails that the Gravy Train stops at, one notable one being at Eastcliff, a few dozen miles from Dawnbury, and even further from Oceania. The station that our crew managed to stumble upon was the one near the abandoned outpost, Summer's Redoubt.   There are a handful of locomotives in the world, often expensive in price, but well worth it, as the distance traveled is immense! It is said that there are some 'copies' of locomotives around Terra Firma, one such place rumored to have some is Terra Edgia, but it is unknown if they actual exist, and if they do, if they are actually safe.

Power Generation

It is unknown exactly how these trains are powered, but it is known that they are powered by magic somehow. They originally were meant to be made to harness the power of steam, but it was decided to be given up on, as it was impractical in the long run.

Weapons & Armament

Unknown. It is unknown if there are any weapons on the trains.

Armor and defense

Unknown. It is unknown if there are any defenses on the trains.

Communication Tools & Systems

On select trains, there are S.O.S. systems in the engineering cabin. These ones are found in the more expensive trains, found in Terra Ultima. Not often are there such amazing amenities in the trains.

Sensors

Unknown.

Additional & auxiliary systems

Unknown.

Hangars & docked vessels

There are stations every now and then, with larger depots near major cities. The one that our crew is familiar with is the one near Summer's Redoubt, the abandoned outpost.
Class
Nickname
The Two Known Trains at this Moment are "the Gravy Train" and "the Piercing Arrow."
Motto
"Swift and Efficient! That's the Ultima way!"
Manufacturer
Owning Organization
Price
Invaluable. There is no real price listed for the whole train. Prices for the train rides differ as well.
Rarity
Locomotives are fairly rare in the world of Terra Firma, only a handful of them exist in the world.
Length
They differ in length, sometimes being hundreds of feet long, having many different cabins and parts to the train, sometimes only having a few.
Height
Standard train height, about 4.75 yards.
Weight
Weight ranges from 3,000 pounds when empty, and up to 12,000 pounds when filled.
Speed
Immense speed. Significantly faster than horses or boats. About 50 MPH.
Complement / Crew
There are many different crews for the different trains. Mainly there is one magic wielder on board, channeling their energy, and many different mechanics.
Cargo & Passenger Capacity
There are many different seats and rooms for passengers, but there are also trains that have cargo sections that can hold dozens of crates. Differs from train to train.
